I have to choose between the two, but I'm not sure which course I should take at school. I only have room left to take one (I'm also going to take AP USH) but if I want to take AP Chemistry, since it's a double period every other day, I have to get band lunch -- which means I have no formal lunch pd (every other day).

I've heard that AP Psychology is very easy... do colleges look down on the course or ?? I want to take this course bc it actually seems interesting but AP Chem seems like it'll be worth more in college.

At this point it doesn’t really matter. Many colleges have different expectations and such. If you love chemistry and need it down the road, take AP Chemistry. AP Psychology is very interesting and it’s very popular in my school. College not only look for rigor, but they look at student interests. A college love to see students do, or take things they enjoy. Sure, Chemistry “looks” better, but it’s your passion and your interest that really mater. My councilor (the best in the world) told me this:

“It’s high school! do whatever the [heck] you want! High school is designed to get students to think for themselves and do what they like to do…but wisely.”

I took both this year (as a junior) and found psych much more interesting and useful. But some of my more science-oriented friends found psych boring. So it just depends on which subject is more interesting to you

Echoing a couple posts above, take whichever one interest you the most. Don’t base your selection on which course they prefer more. By picking the course with this strategy, you are more likely to succeed.

Chemistry is known for being one of the brutal AP courses whereas Psychology is known for being one of the easiest. If you go the Chem route, I suggest completion of (at minimum) Algebra II and a high school level chem course if possible.

If you take all of your courses to look “good” for colleges, YOU won’t be personally fulfilled. Choose what caters more to your interests and what you want to do, and you’ll ultimately do better and enjoy it a lot more.

AP Psych vs AP Chem won’t make or break you. And even if it did, in the long run any college that dismisses you over taking an “easy” but fun AP over a hard AP that you hate would not be a college i would attend.

I self studied AP Psych this year but even as a self study, it was so fascinating and I loved it. I’m taking regular Psych next year over an honors course in other subjects because I looooove Psych, and hope to major in it.

I took both of them this year and AP Chem is a lot harder than AP Psychology, that’s for sure. At my school, AP Psychology is also very popular at my school. Really interesting.
