AP & SAT II tests

Hi,

Which test is more difficult? Can I expect to do well on both of these test if I prepare strongly and do not take AP classes on that subject?

AP is very difficult but with huge CURVE

Thanks for the reply,

I want to take the AP test in Physics next year. I will be in Physics 2 honors, not AP. I am going to buy a review book so I can prepare for the test anyway. I just want to hear it from somebody else if they think it's possible to do so.

Thank you.

In my opinion, APs are generally more thorough. SATIIs are each an hour long but the APs can be as long as 3 hours. No SATII has an essay (I think), but nearly all of the APs have some kind of essay or free response section.

which Physics AP are you planning on taking? I'm in AP physics C and it's pretty hard because sometimes the math is too advanced.

I am not planning on taking AP physics at all. I just want to know if I could do it without the class, just strong preperation. If the AP test is out of the question, the focus comes to the SAT II in Physics.

I mean which test are you planning on taking, as far as I know, there's two diff. tests, Physics B and Physics C
B is no calculus and C is with calculus
So it depends on what you're learning in math now/next year. I think if you're dedicated enough you can probably do it.
In 10th grade I took AP European Hist. with the class, my friend took it without the class, he got a 4, I got a 3.

SATIIs don't give you college credit, but if you're good in Physics and get a good grade, they help you with college aps.

Sorry if nothing makes sense, supdi school tomorrow

Thanks for the information.

I haven't decided which test I'd take. And as for the SAT II's: I simply want to take these for the transcript. I know that subject tests are more important that college credit.

Thanks.

I'm taking the AP Physics C test in a couple of weeks. The multiple choice isin't too bad but the free-response is cantankerous. Does anybody know what the curve is like for that test? Some of the calculus involved is pretty challenging and the concepts are difficult. I'm praying for a VERY generous curve.

Does anyone know how hard the Bio test is for SAT II?

cantankerous....I love that word....lol

APs are more difficult tests...but they get you college credit and it's not all that hard to get an acceptable grade...simply because of the curve
SAT IIs are easier, I'd think, to take because they're aimed at people who've taken high school level instead of college level courses....The curving is a lot harder though, depending on the test. Though, for some of them it's easy to get an 800 (eg Math IIC)

Bio test was moderately hard....I suggest taking the AP course and then taking the SAT II....because then it'll be a breeze...

I took the SAT2 Molecular Bio in 9th grade after honors bio. Taking AP Bio would make it easier since it covers more material faster. I self studied and took practice tests for 3 months before hand, but it paid off (800).

the general consensus is that SATIIS are slightly easier than AP tests, but i think they are fairly equal.

i got a 4 on AP BIO and then didn't study anything at all, took the SATII in june, and got a 660 (molecular).

Hi,
I'm signed up to take SAT IIs in Bio (M), US History, and Math IIC. Any advice? Are they hard? Which requires the most studying...

and the AP US History test--can I get a 5 w/ a reasonable amoutn of time stuyding?

thanks!

If I've taken AP chem this year, should I think about taking SAT II Chemistry too? Because I've heard their topics are way different...

I don't know if the topics are very different or not, but I heard that the SAT II for Chem is much much easier than the AP Chem test. I hope I can get a 4 on the AP test...

the main difference is that the SAT II emphasizes qualitative questions which, at least in my AP chem class, we did not focus on :/
