I'm a junior making my senior schedule now, and I was jw if you guys think I should take AP environmental or AP Bio or AP chem as my science course?

AP Bio or Chem would probably help in the long run with my college grades and studying and then lead to help getting into med school, but I could definately get a better grade in enviro and possibly take one more AP class as the work load would be less. even if i can't take the added AP, enviro could lead to a slightly higher class rank and GPA (or at least keep them up where they are now), and help get me into my first choice college (BC).

I'm not 100% sure I want to go into medicine, but I'm pretty sure..I've always wanted to.

i think it would better to take a bio or chem since its more worthwhile. taking either would show your still challenging yourself and taking enviromental is the easy way out.

Take the med school considerations out of the picture and then make your choice. It's really the least of your worries right now.

Also realize that the overwhelming majority of medical schools do not accept AP credits for required pre-med courses.

If you have to choose between AP bio and AP Chem, choose bio because the upper level bio courses you'll have to take to fulfill your bio requirements (assuming you get a qualifying score on the exam that gets you out of intro bio) are much more interesting, relevant, and not nearly so damn difficult as the upper level chem classes you'd have to take to make up for AP credit in intro gen chem.

Thanks for the advice!
let me clear a few things up...

I wouldn't take the AP bio/chem class for the early credits, necessarily. Mostly for review and to lay the foundation when it comes to taking the actual Bio (or chem) requirements in college. Enviro, on the other hand, would be for the credits. I will probably need all the help I can get to get good grades in a college bio class at a tough university, although I'm not really sure because i've never been to college. haha

environmental isnt necessarily the "easy way" persay, more of a time saver in that its still AP level, but much easier to understand. I'll be taking other AP's and with EC's and stuff, time becomes a concern.

mainly the situation is this:

Bio or Chem (i would rather take bio, and Bigredmed your reasons definately make sense too, but traditionally only one of these run per year at my HS)
-help understand more advanced concepts for the future (i'll probably go into some sort of bio research or other research if i don't end up go to med school)
-possibly help get better UG grades, leading to med school

Enviro
-better grade, (maybe a higher or maintained gpa class rank and all that)
-possibly help getting into undergrad school, unless enviro would look bad?

because apes is such a new class the difficulty and quality varies a LOT from school to school. at my school, APES is grueling and we work just as hard as the AP bio kids, but at a high school in a neighboring town the class is an easy A and it is known as the science class that people who dont like science take... (i adore science and i was one of few people to get an A in apes last semester). so do write it off as an easy class.

As a senior taking AP Bio now I would def reccomend it. I really like the course- its a bit of reading but it is really practical for medicine. 60% 0f grad school applicants are bio majors I have heard. All people who have taken AP Chem have recommeded against it, but honors Chemistry is def something you wanna take if you haven't. Out of all my high school courses I really had to scrap for an A in honors Chem- I a 98 in AP Bio right now. If I can do it you can do it!

hey i actually have the exact same problem...

Im also a junior and i dont know if i should take AP Bio or AP environmental. Everyone says if i want to go into premed then take the AP Bio no doubt. But although i am up for a challenge, it is my senior year and i want to take the AP environmental for that pretty much guranteed A so i can get a for sure higher GPA. Will it truly be a huge deciding factor on my admissions for college if i DONT take AP Bio? Any advince would be greatly appreciated. Thakns so much.

Lost...I'm not sure I was 100% clear on my post (#3).

What I'm saying is that if you take AP Chem and get credit for General Chem in college, you'll have to take a year of even more advanced chemistry after Organic - usually Analytical and Physical, both of which are notoriously hard. Taking AP Bio means you get out of intro Bio, and can take classes like physiology, anatomy, or genetics (assuming they have labs) to fulfill your year of bio courses that medical schools require.

I cannot help with any assessment about college admissions.

hey...
i see what youre saying bigredmed...makes sense
overall im gonna i guess live one step at a time. i think i'll take enviro for now and then worry about everything else when the time comes
