^Chances are that CC will be spammed with all of us figuring it out before he can tweet it- either way I still have a tab open with his feed, another with CC, and constantly call whenever my mind drifts to the topic. My interest is that his most recent tweets have included giving the number to add a college which is the same number for scores, and am wondering if that means they could go live any moment…maybe I’m just paranoid like most people on here. lol

For the last two years, the dates have been July 1st and June 30th iirc

I’m so confused. I was reading AP_Trevor’s tweets and he says that AP NEVER grades on a curve. So, then, how are the tests graded? Are there set cut-off raw scores? How do the cut-off raw scores come about?

@myraven11

They are scaled by professors and similar people so that they feel that a ‘5’ represents the 5’s of past years, and so on. (This is why they reuse MC data so that they can do this more statistically than just subjectively based on free response)

A ‘curve’ would likely mean that a set percentage of people always get a 5, 4, 3, etc… This is clearly not the case if you look at past score distributions. They can quite significantly between years.

I will say though that the FRQ vs MCQ are graded differently in how it pertains to getting your score from year to year. By this I mean, that FRQ will be curved and this is info from one of the lead AP physics graders. What this means is that you have to do better than the guy next to you to get a 5. They do this because sometimes they give questions where the national average is like 2 out of 15 (example from physics c), and they take that information as saying that it was harder than other years. (this of course works the opposite as well) Whereas the MCQ’s are the same number year to year and if the national average is say 10 lower one year, they assume that group was ill prepared and thus less 5’s etc. Hopefully this helps y’all understand. Of course this example is from Physics C where the test is impossibly hard, but you often times only need about 30% to pass vs 50-80% on other exams, but I assume it is similar for other exams. If it helps over the last 4 years, I’ve taken a total of 15 exams (8 this year)

@cfl9267, what exams have you taken and what did you get on them if you dont mind sharing.

Here is what I wrote for another post based on class/exam difficulty etc, but it also shows all my scores, the grade when I took them, and included what I think I received for this year etc
-Human Geography (9th-5) LOVED this class!

-US Gov’t (12th-?5?) Comes easy to me and I only missed 3 MCQ’s on the practice exam and got perfect score on the free response. I knew the material before taking the class.

-APES (12th-?5?) I know a lot of people are saying that the class is easy, but you can’t get by on common sense with only 8.7% getting a 5, but I had a horrible class and knew all the material like the back of my hand. ESP on the FRQ

-Calc AB (11th-4) Didn’t try hard at all and still did well.

-Calc BC (12th- ?4?) Not a fan of series…specifically taylor. I love math, but I don’t want to be an engineer.

-AP Eng Lit (12th-?4/5?) I am horrible at MCQ, bt rock the essays…provided they read my extra pages…plus my teacher made us feel like we were in kindergarten- this was my own writing ability! not her teaching!

-AP Eng Lang (11th-4) See above, except I had an awesome teacher who brought my writing skills from good to great. She doesn’t believe in the perfect essay so you can only get a 90 if it is superb, but I was the first person and only person to get a 9, so she gave me a 95 and extra credit.

-AP Macro (12th-?4?) I liked my teacher and the idea s easy, but he had the AC turned off and it would be 105 in the classroom- can’t concentrate, esp right after lunch.

-AP Stats (11th-3)- would have done better if I didn’t take it after English and fell asleep during the free response…

-APUSH (11th-4) didn’t like my teacher!!! She doesn’t like people who do well, but don’t try hard…

-WHAP (10th-3) too much memorizing

-AP Comp Sci (12th-?3/4?) Idk what I thought about this one. It can go any way for me.

-AP Physics C: Mechanics (12th- ?4?) I thought I was doing poorly, so I gave up trying, but got solid 4’s on all mock exams with steady improvement and almost got a 5 on the last one.

-AP Biology (11th- 2) We learned one semester of material and barely knew that stuff

-AP French (12th- ?2?) Je ne sais pas!!! I actually think I did better than I thought I would, but I barely speak French. I had a horrible French 1&2 teacher and my French 3&4 teacher didn’t care and tried to build on stuff I (and my class) didn’t know. grrrr

I think that is all 15 of them, as for the French, I’m wondering if it is possible I got a 3 because I felt oddly better about that exam than what I was expecting. When I went in, I thought I’d get a 1, but I wrote a lot and remembered more than I normally do and oddly think I did well on the speaking and writing.

calc bc-5 (took 3 practice exams and got 3, 5, 5. i messed up on one of the frq’s but i want to believe in my teacher who told me i’d get a 5.)
chem-4/5 (subtracted wrong on one of the frqs, ■■■ -___- and didn’t know how to do a lot of frqs…shooting for a 5, but more realistically it may be a 4.)
lang-3/4 (i don’t even know how to guess for this…)
us history-4/5 (feel really good about the mc and the frq. but the last frq, i wasn’t straight-forward on addressing similarities and differences. if a 5, it’d be right on the curve.)
calling is pointless here. we get it around the same week we can find out via phone. i might as well wait just few more days.

Spanish Language - 4 or 5… probably 5
Environmental Science - 3 or 4
European History - yeah, um, probably a 2. Maybe a 3 if I get lucky.

Calc BC - (4/5) I freaken hope I got a 5… I made dumb mistakes on the FRQ and a few MC questions, but seems like people last year were in the same position as I am… turns out the curve was really generous… hoping it is for this year’s as well.

Physics B - (3/4) This test was hard. That’s all I have to say. : /

United States History - I feel like I could have pulled a 5, but, most likely I scored a 3 or 4

English Language - Probably a 2 or 3. I didn’t allocate my time wisely and ended up with 18 minutes to write the last essay. Which the prompt almost gave me a panic attack over…

Biology - 2 or 3. Science is my worst possible subject.

ap enviro - 1 or 2
ap physics c mech - 2 or 3
ap english lang - 2 or 3

Come at me, CB

AP Chemistry - 5
AP Envron Science- 5
AP US Government-5
AP Macroeconomics-5
AP Microeconomics-4
AP Eng. Literature- 3/4—> TROLOLOLOL

In no particular order…
5,4,4,5,5,5

US History - 3 or 4. I was confident after initially finishing the exam, but I’m second guessing myself now.

Psychology - 4 or 5. Leaning towards a 5, I feel confident about this one.

Calc AB: 4/5, really hoping for a 5.
Lit & Comp: 3/4. I was shocked by how hard this exam was. The class was really easy for me, even though most others struggled with it.
Physics C Mech: Did anyone else almost cry during the FRQs? But MC was so easy, so 3/4
Physics C E&M: 4. Way easier than Mech, surprisingly.
World History: 5. Absolutely loved that DBQ!
Spanish Literature: 4. MC was pretty easy, but I misread the instructions for the Chac Mool essay and only answered part B. I only had 5 minutes to go back and scribble an answer for part A, but somehow wrote a whole page in that time :P

APUSH- 4 or 5. The MC was harder than any practice test I’d ever had, but the essays were easier than any essays I’d ever had…

AP Lang - 3 or 4. Teacher did a TERRIBLE job of preparing us… Most people from my school will make a 2. MC wasn’t terribly difficult, and I think I wrote a really great synthesis essay, as well as a pretty good analysis essay… My persuasive essay was terrible, though. I was tired by then (coffee had worn off) and the prompt was terribly abstract… So I kind of mocked the prompt by fooling around with its wording in my thesis. =P

Really, REALLY anxious! I REALLLLLY want to know whether or not I got a 5 on APUSH!

I’m 6/6 in my predictions.

Right on 5/5!
