"Wait so if you have AP credit for Bio AP and then u take Bio 1A/1B at Berkeley, does your AP credit units get deducted?"

I asked an advisor about this and she wrote that the University MAY or MAY NOT deduct your credit. She said they could not possibly comb through 18,000 Letters and Science students' transcripts to deduct the credits.

"However, if you feel that your math background is not as strong as you would like, you are not penalized for taking Math 1A. For example, if you received a 3 on the AB Math and decide to take Math lA, you will still receive 2.7 units for the AP test and 4 units for Math 1A."

actually, wishfulthnker, that site merely explains which requirements are satisfied by which AP exams...not whether or not credits can be earned, from what i can see.

if you're in the college of letters & science, you will receive units by passing AP exams. to determine just how many you will be receiving, grab the black & white booklet called "Earning Your Degree" that you should have received at CalSo. on page 41, there's a credit breakdown.

however, it's probably true that pre-med kids and similar will lose some of those credits to taking equivalent courses while at cal. don't worry, guys; i doubt you'll need those credits anyway. =]
