I only received a 2 on my AP World History exam. I know I will not receive any credit for this at the colleges I plan on applying to. Should I still include the scores in my application?

yeah i have a similar question… i took six and passed only 4 =/ but i wanted to report the scores for the ones i passed… is that possible or do we have to send all??

This is a tricky question. Most High school transcripts list their students AP scores. It would be more than unethical to hide it from a college, especially since it appears on the high school transcript. If they see that discrepancy, it might be grounds for immediate rejection or worse. Therefore, I personally would list all my AP exams and all my result.

With that said, there is a “score withholding” policy with the AP Reporting Services. Not sure how it exactly works and can’t vouch for its efficacy, but details can be found here:
[AP Scores - AP Scores & Reporting Services](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>View Your AP Scores – AP Students | College Board)

Do you want colleges to think that you spent an entire year taking a course but didn’t even attempt the exam?

i’ve been reading this on a couple of threads, and it’s kind of bugging me, but since when do high school transcripts include your AP or SAT scores? i thought they only contain your classes and grades., and “high school” stuff. you have to pay collegeboard to send your SAT/AP scores.
for the SAT, they give you 4 free sends, and everything else is $9.95 or something. i don’t know about APs, but i remember something similar when i registered for them.

and jason, since when has not reporting AP scores been considered unethical? i don’t really follow your logic, especially since AP scores are mostly used for placement, not admission.

You are right. AP scores are mostly used for placement, not admission.

I’m not sure whether your high school did this, but mine included SAT, ACT, and AP scores on it. I get the feeling that a lot of high schools do this (why do schools specifically want you to send the scores directly from the testing agency and not just the ones on the transcript).

The folks who administer the AP will automatically send a copy of the scores to your high school.

Unethical might be the wrong word, but it definitely raises red flags in a college app if the scores are on the high school transcript but not on the college application. The school might be wondering, “what else are you hiding?”

I would definitely take a look at your high school transcript before you apply to colleges.

sorry for my somewhat belated reply but thanks jason!! i didnt even think about whether or not it would be on my transcript… i was thinking that the ETS (or whoever does AP exams) would just send all the scores to colleges i’m still a little unclear on that issue

and yeah the score withholding thing seems purposefully hazy lol it says,

"If you later decide to send an AP Score Report to a different college, however, you need to contact AP Services to have the score withheld from that score report.

A request to withhold a score does not permanently delete your score, and all exam scores, even those withheld from score reports sent to colleges, are sent to you and your school."

so it seems almost contradictory lol

thanks for replying though, i do think i have a better understanding now
