It is the summer prior to my Senior year. I have worked very hard throughout high school to prove I have what it takes to handle a rigorous academic curriculum. I have a 4.17 weighted GPA. I have taken four AP classes, and I passed all four AP exams with a three 4’s and one 5. I am hoping to attend a University on a pre-med track in hopes of getting into Medical School later. Because it is my Senior year and I have previously exhibited the means to handle a rigorous schedule, my parents want me to take it easy this year. I have the option of taking AP Bio, AP English, AP Latin, and AP Calculus. I know what I want to accomplish, but my parents seem to think that I should take a bit of a break before college. Do you think that if I lighten my load that my chances of getting into a good school with a good program will be hindered? Side note: I scored a 31 on my ACT, and I have 1300 medical volunteer hours.
You can lighten it somewhat because you need to carve out time for college applications and essays, which will take up more time than you realize. You cannot lighten it to the extent that your GC does not rate your schedule as most rigorous.
So do you need 4 AP’s? Probably not. Can you get by with no AP’s? Definitely not.
How did you get 1300 medical volunteer hours? What did you do?
I’ve been volunteering at local hospitals and children’s hospitals nationwide since I was 13. I’ve also been on two mission trips where i worked in the clinics and pharmacies for a week at a time
