AP Spanish 5?

I'm not sure of whether I should take AP Spanish 5 because that class is a lot of work and I have better things to do like writing a paper for intel or seimens, touching up a website, and applying to schools. By dropping spanish I will have one free period, but I would have 4 APs this year, (5 if counting spanish). Do you think top 15 schools would care if I drop Spanish this year?

Probably not if you do better things with your time.

If they see you’re doing worthwhile in your free period, I don’t think it should be a make-or-break issue in your application.

Though honestly: consider this. Do you enjoy Spanish? Is learning Spanish something you like to do?

If it were me, I’d base my decision on whether or not I liked the actual class and not what some college admissions committee member thinks in the two minutes he spends scanning your application.

Stanford says that their most competitive applicants have 4 years of each core subject (math, English, social studies, science, foreign language). They also say that some applicants make it up by having 5 years of one if they are lacking with only 3 in another subject area. If you have only 3 social studies, for example, you should go with AP Spanish 5, or concurrently enroll in a social study course online or at a community college (that’s what I did; I took Psych at a CC because I had only 3 social studies including AP Gov this year) if you don’t want to take the course.

Spanish literature may be PRETTY difficult for a non-native, but I would take it, too, if I was one year ahead like you because I LOVE the language and culture.

Good luck with whatever course you decide on!

Also, you know what would be even more impressive? Taking AP Spanish Lit AND touching up your website :3 Plus, a B can’t hurt too much, right?
