I took two years of spanish in middle school so when i came to high school i started as a freshman with spanish 2. As a junior I have AP Spanish Language and I am not considering taking AP spanish Liturature next year. Only a couple students (none this year actually) take AP Spanish Lit each year at my school and I was wondering how good it looks to take this much of a language in high school? Will it help me a lot? For what its worth I got straight A’s so far in Spanish and will probably receice another A this semester too.

any AP in a foreign language looks great.

You should continue with AP Spanish Lit next year. It definitely shows dedication, and I'm sure you'll love the class =).

I would take the AP Spanish Literature for two reasons - one, your school is progressive enough to offer it, though few can qualify. If qualified students don't take the course, it will eventually be eliminated, to everyone's loss. It should be a small class with lots of mind-broadening opportunity! The second reason is that language skills deteriorate when you don't use them. If you are planning on using your Spanish skills to test out of college requirements, you'll be in much better shape if you've had a senior year class. Mastering Spanish is going to help you in college and in life, especially if you work in the medical, educational or legal fields. However, this doesn't answer your question, does it?

You asked how colleges would view three years of study which included AP Language. It shouldn't hurt your application at all. Most schools only require two years of a foriegn language.

Does it look bad if you took, let's say, 3 years of a language (no AP) and then decided to start a new one senior year? This is basically my situation... I'm in Spanish Year Three now, and I've been taking Spanish since freshman year, but I know it pretty well and really have no interest in continuing with it, so I'm taking German Year One next year.

Definitely take it.

i think you should definitely continue to spanish literature. Two of my friends take it, one of them who took the AP course last year, and another one who is taking AP and AP lit simultaneously.

asteroid- aww you should give spanish a chance! i loved spanish so much (And was impatient with the slow pace) that i ended up skipping it. Perhaps you want a challenge? personally, if i were an admission officer, i would like to see a continuation, but follow your own interest. I don't think it will hurt you.

Top colleges prefer 4 years of the same language. But 3+1 is pretty good too. Do it if tthat's what you really want regardless.
