Okay, basically I have the option of taking Spanish Lang in Junior year and Spanish Lit in Senior. However Spanish is not one of my favorite subjects; it won't ruin my GPA as I can get A's, but I'm not crazy about it. Originally, my school only offered Spanish Language so I thought it was okay to only take 3 years of language. But now I'm not so sure. So should I or should I not take Spanish Literature? Instead I was planning to take multiple college courses in science or math...So?

Which classes do you truly enjoy?

you have to explain to us what spanish language and spanish lit is and how they work. Do they both count as language credits? How many language credits do you have? At my school they only have one spanish path, from spanish 1 to spanish AP

My true passions lie in science, and math is something that I enjoy doing.

in my school if you are on the honors track you go:
Spanish 3 Acc.-->Spanish 4 Honors-->AP Spanish Language-->AP Spanish Literature
I want to go:
Spanish 3 Acc.-->Spanish 4 Honors--> AP Spanish Language

They are separate AP courses...sorry I think I forgot to mention AP
I only need to take 2 years of language to graduate but my counselor keeps saying that the top colleges like to see 4 years. So, is it good enough that I have one language AP or would they look down at not taking AP Spanish Literature when the option was available?

I personally think that as long as you go to the AP level and do well on the test, one is enough. But you're councelor is right in saying that many colleges like 4 years of language. But i think if you get a 5 on the first AP there's no need to take another. I have 2 years of a language and got a 5 on the AP test, and I'm not taking any more language classes.

I say, do something you like, not something you don't like. Have you any idea what you would be forced to read and to analyze? Imagine your most horrific English Lit experience on steroids - and in Spanish! Honestly, if I had to take AP Spanish Lit (and I'm fluent in the language) I would be hard pressed to not slit my wrists.

Spanish 4 is where HS level Spanish ends. To get there, you must have taken the equivalent of the first two years in middle school or elsewhere. This means that you HAVE had the equivalent of 4 years of Spanish! If I were your mom, I'd let you quit now. Heck, I let Happykid quit after Latin 2.

You have to take into account your options outside of taking Spanish again this year? multiple college courses in math and science?? do you really think a college would be more impressed by an extra year in a class you dont plan to pursue when you ARE taking advantage of really worthwhile alternatives. i think not
