My daughter self studied and got a 5 on the AP Spanish exam this past spring. She is now looking at a pretty rigorous schedule which includes 5 AP courses. We are now thinking it would have make more sense from an admissions standpoint, course load and Spanish learning opportunity to have actually taken the AP Spanish course at school. Can she still take the AP Spanish course? Would that make sense? Would it look odd to admissions directors at colleges? Thanks!!!
If she already got a 5 on AP Spanish, her time us probably better spent on other courses. Does her school offer AP Spanish lit? Or could she take a Spanish lit class, 300 level or higher, in Spanish, at a nearby 4 yr college? Most will let a high schioler take one class a semester for free.
If she wants to take Spanish, a more advanced Spanish course (perhaps at a local college) would be a better idea. Taking the AP course after a 5 on the AP test looks like grade grubbing.
Why is she taking 5 AP classes? Is it necessary for her to take that many to look competitive at her school? If that’s not the case (and even if it is), couldn’t she drop down a level in one of the APs, possibly something less related to her potential major?
I agree taking it after getting a 5 wouldn’t make sense and would be more likely to be negatively interpreted.
