AP Stat as Junior vs Calc AB

Hi all
My D is now a sophomore and is taking Pre-Calc with Trig. She is a bright girl and has always been ahead in math, but we are suddenly facing an issue that I am stressing out on and need guidance. Her GC is not very helpful and I am turning to you all for advice.

My husband works with her everyday on Math and she and he agree that she is strong with her concepts and they work hard on it. She does very well at home and in her homeworks bt says she zones out during the test. It's hard for her too, and I can't imagine a bright kid like her spacing out, forgetting formulae and losing time, eventually she gets it, but it's done it's damage already. She is not doing well at all because these tests carry quite a bit of the grade..

With all this in mind, though she is capable of taking Calc AB next year, I was suggesting she switch gears and do AP stats. I feel that it is a different kind of logic/math involved and will give her some catch up time before she takes AB calc in senior year.
So now I have 2 questions:

Need help in test taking strategy and not "forget"

Taking AP stat in Junior year - would it be hard to come back to calc in Senior year after a break?

Is she strong on the calculator? It should be well programmed by her so that she doesn’t have to remember :-). Is she regularly doing her homework (daily) and redoing it if she gets something to wrong to reinforce how to do it right?

Stats are not at all the same math. I suppose I would sign up for Calc (BC) and see how things go over the summer and change at the beginning of the year if needed.
