CALC BC or AP Stat junior year?

Hi, I'm a sophomore taking AP calc right now, but I'm kind of struggling with it. I currently have a C in the class.

I was wondering..as a way to "makeup" for my poor grade this year, should I work harder and take ap calc BC next year? Or should I play the safe side and take AP stat?

If I were to take BC I'm sure I would work my hardest. But everyone tells me not to?

What stands out more to colleges? The fact that I'm taking AP calc sophomore year, or the fact that I have a C in it?

Thank you for your help!

I thought you can only take either the AB or BC AP Calculus Exam. So I can’t help you there. The fact that you have a C in AP Calculus AB stands out more.

The ‘C’ stands out much more than taking AP calc. But I would still do BC just to avoid the hiatus.

What if I get an A the next semester?

@HobbitTon a lot of schools offer AB as a prerequisite to BC (mine does)

@OP If you’re struggling that much, I wouldn’t recommend taking BC unless you can pull your grade up to at least a B next semester. You should talk to your teacher about places to get extra help.

Take AP Stats. Let’s be honest here, what’s to stop you from getting an A in Calc this year? The same problems you have this year will be present next year but will be exacerbated due to the harder course material. Do yourself a favor and take stats.

For what its worth, my school administration told all the “advanced” kids to take BC Calc but a lot of us chose not to. The kids in AB right now have a higher track record of getting into Ivy level schools (and there are about equal numbers in each class).

Senior year is stressful. I didn’t think it would be, but it is. The stress of writing college apps mixed with taking a super hard course load isn’t worth it IMO.

Stats, on the other hand, is hella easy. You’ll have fun.

AP stats all the way
