AP Stat vs. Honors Pre-Calc??

Hey everyone!

I’m new to CC and I was hoping to get some insight on math classes while choosing my schedule for next year.

I am currently a sophomore in high school enrolled in Honors Algebra 2. Math has never been my strong suit. While getting A’s in all of my other classes, I always receive a B or the occasional C in in math. I’m much better at statistics-related math than algebra or calculus kind of stuff, so I’ve been considering taking AP Stat instead of Pre-Calc next year.

I would like to attend a UNC/UVA/Vanderbilt caliber school and major in something like international relations or political science in hopes of having a career working for the government. Since I have no desire to work or major in any STEM field, I'm hoping that colleges won't hold my lack of math aptitude against me. I'm signed up for AP Biology next year, so that will show them that I'm still decent at science.

This would mean that I would not take a math class at all as a senior. I would take 7 classes total and I would have never taken pre-calc. Do you think that colleges will think that's horrible? It's just that I despise math. It's a completely unpleasant experience for me and it's just not my thing. I'm expecting to have good SAT scores and I'm completely fine on the extracurricular front, so I'm hoping that the math thing won't be too much of an issue!

Thank you!!

Take precal junior year and AP stats as a senior.

Take standard level PreCalc and AP Stat senior year
