AP Statistics instead of Calculus?

and OMG !! I thought precal was so hard. It was my lowest grade in all of high school. My math self esteem was SHOT after that class...I even got a D on the final exam. I had no idea how I was goign to do calc the next year and it was the first time in my life that I foudn that I had trouble with math.

However, I went on to take AP Calc and got a 5 on the exam. Honestly, a lot of precal is irrelevant in AP Calc. I hate saying that but it's true. I did not find anything coming back to haunt me from the year before. It's mostly your algebra skills that will pull you through. I really liked alg. 1 and alg. 2 and really felt that help me in calc. Calc is just a whole different ballgame than any other math. I guess trig is what you really use a lot from precal in ap calc but still...

Precalc was my lowest grade in high school. BC was one of my higher ones. Most colleges will recomend that you take some sort of calculus class in high school, and Columbia is one of those colleges that highly recomends taking the hardest schedule your school offers. AP Stat is a fine class to take in high school, but take it as an elective, and not in place of Calc.

ahhhh thank you viva and venkater... i don't feel like the only who has/is struggling with precalc right now! i dont understand exactly why it is so hard i mean most of it is review but somehow i'm doing, just like both of you said, the worst i've ever done and i've never felt this un-confident about math. ayy my final is on wednesday though i hope its alright....

No you're definitely not. I had some SERIOUS disasters in that class. Don't give up and try not to let it get you down too much. You ARE still good at math :)

Best of luck!!!

I got into SEAS '11 with no AP Calc officially on my schedule. I've been working on it independently, though, (kinda slowly).

I'm taking Physics C, though.
