AP Stats not even really considered an AP?

Apparently different AP's like AP Stats or even Environmental Science are barely considered AP's??? Why... are they a lot easier than others?

They aren’t exactly not considered APs… they are easier than some other AP classes but that doesn’t make them not AP - AP is a title, not a level of difficulty.

It’s an AP subject. That’s why it’s called AP Statistics. No, it’s not very difficult, but yeah it is AP.
Really though? DUH it’s AP. What did you think people were gonna say…

It’s really not that easy. This site really led me to believe it was all common sense and although some parts may be, don’t underestimate this subject. And the AP itself is graded very harshly as one word can literally cost or earn you a point on a 4 point question.

I’d say it’s a lot easier than AP calc but it’s definitely a lot harder than AP psych or something like that. I thought it was easy but then I found out I was the only person at my school to get a 5 on it and the next best score was a 3, which only 2 or 3 people got, out of about 40 people taking it. It was the first time our teacher taught it, though.

While the class may not be AP calibur at some schools, the AP Exam is graded quite harshly and has the same grade distribution and mean scores of most AP Exams, even the very difficult ones! I took AP Stats the same time as regular Pre-Calculus, and I thought they were about equal in difficulty. Be warned though, it’s harder than you think and you do need to know a lot of information for the AP Exam, not to mention that including or not including a simple word like “mean” or “average” or “approximately” could cost you the entire question, even if every other piece of information is correct.

Don’t underestimate statistics. Just because the AP exam is mathematically easy doesn’t mean that you know how to use statistics properly, nor does it mean that it’s not the most useful AP class you’ll ever take. Because it honestly is if you’re going into any kind of field that requires experimentation. Hell, I used a t-test the other day to see if there was a significant differeence in the student ratings of two different math teachers at my college.

AP Stats is definitely not in the same league as AP Psychology. You do have to put forth some effort other than just reading the text, most likely, and it is retardedly useful, even if you don’t like it. I used a lot of learned techniques from AP Stats in a whole bunch of science labs.

It’s labeled AP because it’s college level, not because it’s hard; based on what my college friends (mostly from UCs) tell me, classes like introductory stats, psych, and econ are very easy classes in college.

Some AP exams represent a year of college work (Bio, Chem, Physics, Calculus, USH, some languages, maybe a few others) and some AP exams represent a semester of college work spread out over a whole high school year (Stats, CompSci, Psych, Human Geo, EnvSci, Government, World History, Euro, etc).

Those that represent a semester that are easy anyway, but spread out over a year, should be pretty easy ones. Psych is easy for most even over a semester. Stats is really easy for math oriented people, but for people who are not good at math, taking slowly it over a year can be quite beneficial. At our school, AP Euro is still hard even over a whole school year.

These facts are not secrets by the way.
