What would berkeley like to see more from someone who would apply to the college of Letters of Science (business)?

sorry, their senior year year*

I don’t know if when you apply to Berkeley it would matter much on which AP course you took, but if you were to pick one solely on the fact of what would do you more good as a prospective applicant for Haas, there is really no preference. Partly because part of the prerequisites require both. You need to take one semester of Calculus (Math 16A, 16B, 1A, or 1B) and with a 5 in AP Calculus BC you could pass out of the requirement. You need to take one semester of Statistics (Stats 2, 20, or 21) and I believe you can pass out of it with a 5 in AP Stats.

Honestly, both are AP classes in mathematics so either one is going to ‘look good’ on an application. I took both classes, Calc my junior year, stat my senior, and I’ve found statistics to be infinitely easier… But a lot of stat is working through words; less calculations, more reading and writing! Go with your strength, what interests you, and what class will get you a better grade.

I wish you could be exempt from their stat requirement with a 5 on the AP stat test. I would suggest taking Calc. BC just because it could possibly exempt you from one of the pre-reqs for Haas. Stats does nothing except give you ap credits.

@HelloAll: Thanks for clarifying that for me & OP. I wasn’t sure if a 5 on the AP Stat test would exempt a requirement and not just count for credit. Never took AP Stat in HS so I never really knew.
