Ap stats or Ap psych

I’m going to be a sophomore next year and I can take either ap stats or ap psych. I’m also taking ap world history and honors precalc so I don’t want to take too many history classes/math in one year but I really find both subjects fascinating. What are your recommendations, experiences, etc?

I took AP Psych, and I felt like AP Psych was more about memorizing. So since you memorize the terms well it can be easier for you. My friend who took AP Calc was more struggling in her AP Stats class than Calc. She said there are just too many stuffs to do. But if you are good at memorizing then I recommend you to take AP Psych.

Obviously this is specific to my school but I’ll give my 2 cents. I am in AP Stats and AP Calc BC as a senior and AP Stats is definitely harder right now. There are a lot of concepts to learn though you don’t have to memorize formulas for the test like you do in Calculus. I am doing okay mostly because I enjoy learning about it though there are several in the class struggling to understand it. If you don’t understand it at the beginning you will be quickly lost. That said, it is pretty interesting if you can get into math and the concepts will definitely connect to many other classes.

I have many friends in AP Psych and they all find it fun and pretty easy. It is mostly memorizing from what I have heard but the ideas are pretty interesting as well.

Both classes are actually pretty small content-wise. My AP Stats class will finish our material in the next two weeks and then start reviewing for the AP test. I know AP Psych is typically short on content as well.

I’d recommend AP psych for balance :). Also, statistics must be taken in college because it’s one of the few classes that can go under ‘relevant coursework’ no matter what the internship is.

I will tell you that in our HS AP Psych is a killer, and AP Stats is considered one of the easier APs. My S took AP Stats last year as a junior and got a 5 on the test without breaking a sweat. He was taking Precalc honors at the same time, and is a strong math student. He almost took AP Psych this year but opted to go in a different direction. The kids taking AP Psych are struggling. Ask around and see how the courses/teachers are in your high school.
