I keep getting told that 2 of my pieces that I put in my concentration looked like or reminded them of Gravity Falls. And it was inspired by it, but I didn’t think it was super obvious unless you knew the show (I don’t mean I traced or something like that, I mean it’s based off a scene, but still different). I’m worried now, will it seem like plagiarism to the AP graders?
Without seeing your pieces (which you cannot post here), nobody will be able to answer your question. But unless it’s extremely exact, I doubt that it will be construed as plagiarism. Let’s be real - most art (and music among other categories) is inspired from something else.
Although it’s now water under the bridge, if you kept “getting told” that it’s too exact, you probably should have swapped out the pieces, or at least modified the existing ones.
They never called it exact, just that it reminded them of the show. It was mostly just passing comments, and a girl in my class had a similar reference. Everybody in class knew that’s what it was based on, but there were obvious differences between my piece, her piece, and the source material.
