Hello everyone. I’m currently a sophomore in high school and took AP World this year. I have seen people posting that you shouldn’t send your AP scores unless you scored a 5. What’s wrong with sending the scores if you got either a 3 or 4?
A 4 is probably okay. A 3 adds nothing to your application. If you got a A in the course but a 3 on the exam, it brings into question what that A and all the others on your transcript are really worth. (The opposite relationship shows mastery of the material but hard grading.)
After you’ve enrolled, you can have your official scores sent and if there’s credit to be gotten for a 3, you can get it then.
One other thing… you self report AP scores on your application. You only have them sent to the school where you enroll. You control this, so no worries!
@gardenstategal Thank you for the reply. I’m looking at getting either a B+ or A- for the year and I think I did well enough on the exam to get a 4. Do you think that those two combined would be okay. For our quizzes our teacher gave us previous AP questions.
The grades will be on your transcript so you have no choice on that. If you get a 4 or 5, report it. If less, don’t. Schools you apply to will not know whether you took the exam or not.
