I'm a junior in high school. Our AP Environmental Science class is not taught very well for the AP test material. I have a feeling that doing well on this exam would take extreme amounts of effort on my own, and this would be tough, judging that I have four other AP tests (Psychology, US, Calc B/C, Comp. Science A). I was wondering if somebody could tell me for certain one way or the other whether not taking an AP exam would impact my chances of college admission.

At my daughter's school, they remove the AP designation if you don't take the exam. So it would just be a regular honors class. If your school has the same policy, then a college might not be able to tell from your transcript that you took an AP class but not the exam.

And if you're taking 4 AP classes as a junior already? I would think you'd be fine.

But it might be worth it to pick up some outside study material.... I actually just bought my daughter AP US History for Dummies and the Cliff's Notes AP Bio book and practice exams. Maybe see what's out there for Environmental Science and if it might not be too difficult to work in some test-focused independent study.

Personally... I'd say 5 AP courses as a junior is too much, but then, my kid isn't trying to go Ivy.

Thank you very much for the input. My school actually does not do that, so it will show up as AP on transcripts anyway. Anyone else?

Nobody knows for sure? If anyone does, I need to know pretty soon...

If you don't think you can get a good score on the exam don't take it. Not taking the exam is better than getting a bad score. Focus on the other four and maybe you can try AP Environmental and cancle your scores if you think you did badly.

Definitely an option -- thanks for the input. I need to also know, however, if anyone knows for sure whether colleges will know if I didn't take this test. Anyone?

Colleges will now if you report the scores officially. Since you are taking so many they might understand, thinking it's a financial issue or that you're going for quality over quantity.

I took 2 APs as a sophmore
4 as a junior
I'm taking 7 as a senior

so far I've recieved a 5 and a 4

judging by the coursework you have I'd say you're fine....psych is easy...so devote a little more time to the enviro and you never know
