I just completed the transition from high School to an online curriculum, where I intend to complete My Jr./Sr. Years of High School by June… Thing Is, I can only take The AP exams during May, so even If I were to complete my AP courses for my Jr. Year by then, I’d still have to wait an entire year for a class that can be completed within a month…
What also bothers me is how the online curriculum impacts my grades… The curriculum seems very simplistic compared to my old high school (I’m taking AP Biology) Many lessons seem to omit many integral details, and without my prior knowledge of biology earned from self studying, these tasks would be very difficult (difficult in the sense where your tests have little to do with the assignments, Ie: Give calculus to a first grader… What do you expect?)
Is there a way that I could take the AP exams elsewhere? Why can it only be taken at my local high school once a year? I mean, I started in January, and I’m essentially 30% done with my Jt. school year (the transition is still ongoing, I can only take 3 of the 8 required classes for now)
Is taking the AP tests even mandatory? Must I complete the test to get a final grade on the subject?
Also regarding the flawed curriculum, many questions are worded very poorly, offering mutiple answers that are correct. An analagy: When you’re driving, on what occasions do you stop?
A: at a stop sign
B: At a red light
C: When pedestrians cross the road
All answers are correct, but I have to choose the… “more” correct answer… It leads me to a 50/50 chance of having a correct answer, which leads me to arbitrarily choosing the correct one. In my high school, I was getting 95+ on all of my tests, here Im getting 80’s. It’s unfair that I KNOW the material, but I’m unable to demonstrate that because of these darn tests.
Also, I recently took a SAT math questions test, and I found myself unable to answer nearly all of the questions, but that’s only because I’ve yet to be introduced to these types of problems… I fear that If I take the SAT now, I’ll get a poor score. I purchased a Precalculus book (I just completed a basic algebra 2 level curriculum) but I’m afraid that wont be enough. What levels of Mathematics does the SAT have?
