Ap Units?!

Im writing on behalf of my friend. She took AP in high school and now wants to transfer those units. Will the ap units go under the 60 unit requirement or are they separate? Does anyone know anything about this?

Do AP scores count as part of the 60 units needed to transfer to the UC?
Yes. For example, a student could earn 2.67 semester units toward the 60 needed for admission to the UC by earning a 3 on the Psychology AP exam. "Students should be aware that college courses taken prior to or after enrolling at the University (UC) may duplicate the content of AP examinations. In these cases, the University may not award credit for both the course and the AP exam." The student in this example may not earn credit for both Psychology 100 and AP of 3 in Psychology because it could be considered an illegal repeat. Consult with an SBCC academic counselor.

Since the UC campuses can award different amounts of units for the AP exams you should look into how many units you get for each exam at each UC campus. This information can usually be found in the general course catalog. Remember this is going to be in quarter units, if a quarter school, so convert the units back to semester, if you are on a semester system (1 semester unit = 1.5 quarter units). It is possible to be one unit short for one UC campus but meet the unit requirement at another campus because of AP credits.

hey ucd admissions. Well I checked the amount of units that you get for an AP US exam for UCLA and it said 8.0 units. which I am guessing is quarter units. so thats like 5.33 something units, correct??

Yes 8 quarter units = 5.33 semester units
