AP US Government Help Please!

Hey guys, I have a summer assignment for AP US Government and I think I know the answers but I just want you guys to check them for me please? There are 50 questions and 2 essays so I’m not getting you guys to do my work, just to check over a few questions.

The Constitution prohibits bills of attainder to prevent

  1. elected legislatures from passing legal judgement on citizens w/o trial
  2. chief executives from detaining citizens without bringing formal charges
(i narrowed it down to those 2 and I think its 3 but I’m starting to doubt myself)

According to the Three-Fifths Compromise, five slaves were counted as 3 people for the purpose of
…and the roman numerals say direct taxation, census, military conscription and congressional representation
(i think its taxation, census, and representation)

The writ of habeus corpus

  1. tests the constitutionality of a prisoner’s detention
  2. compels a government officer to perform a duty
  3. permits officers to restrain a person in contempt of court
(i think its 1 but i’m not sure)

The unamended Consitution indirectly supported gender inequality by

  1. granting suffrage only to those who could vote for the lower houses of state legislatures
  2. mandating that only males hold office as representative, senator or President
  3. enumerating the rights of “men” to be secure against unreasonable searches and seizures
    (i thinks its 1)

Thank you so much guys! We didn’t even get a textbook and I tried looking these up but the wording of the question is what’s confusing me.

Bills of attainder basically allow a person to be declared guilty without a trial, so I think its actually 1. I don’t think the Three-Fifths compromise had anything to do with taxation but yes, definitely census and therefore representation. The writ of habeas corpus does test the constitutionality of a prisoner’s detention.
Hope this helps :)

^Incorrect. The Three Fifths compromise dealt with Representation and Taxation. Remember, this was done before the first census in 1790.

three fifths compromise was about whether slaves could be counted as part of a states population when it came to taxation and apportionment of member in the US House of reps, so they came up with the compromise that each slave counted as three-fifths of a person.

Thanks for the help guys! and violetlila, at second look, i think you’re right, i was mixing it up w/ habeus corpus i think. So the consensus is that census isnt an answer? I realize the first census was in 1790 but this was just a plan that would be put in effect later. I think due to representation being right, census is indirectly right too because you need to count the population for representation. ugh this is hard without a textbook or anything
