I'm an upcoming junior this fall and I'm trying to figure out if I would be able to take on AP us history. I just moved back from overseas after six so I don't know that much U.S. history. I do like studying history and I'm fairly good at it. Do you think it'd be too difficult to take up without much previous knowledge?

Also, how difficult is AP world history? Is it a good course to take?

I'm taking it this year! We'll seeeee

AP US History consists of a lot of memorization of facts. However, just memorizing is not enough. One must be able to put together the facts and analyze them with a good thesis for DBQs. The actual memorization is not too hard just a lot of reading. Most US History courses start with the beginning and end up around the Vietnam war (I think) you keep reading. A good background to start will help you draw outside information and be able to put things together, but if you are willing to work hard and do the reading you should be fine.

Its not bad if you are a decent writer and a good memorizer, but my class had way too much work in my opinion so I felt it was harder than it should have been.

You have to read a lot for this class. But if you are good at history, take it. Previous knowledge is not really needed because you start from the beginning (at least at my school). Check out the AP exam forum and it has some more helpful stuff.

I didn't think it was bad at all. It was a lot of reading and you have to be a decent writer but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It did help that I had like the best teacher ever though...

Im taking it now! So far I like it and my teacher does fun little things to make it stick in my head. And all we've had to do is start an essay due next Tuesday. I dont think itll be hard for you like vasudevank said you start from the beginning and work your way through just keep up. Now Ap Bio, thats a different story..

get the book ap us history: fast track to a 5. i think mcgraw hill is the publisher. it goes along with the american pageant text book. that book save me

I didn't think it was difficult, all I read throughout the whole year were the chapter summaries and I studied with the Kaplan flashcards and got a 5

it's a FUN class, but i love history anyway.

you have to have a good memory and be a good writer. use the kaplan or PR book. good luck!

In my school its considered a big deal to get into APUSH because of 1,000 kids and only two classes (around 55 kids). The teacher makes a big deal out of it. I mean a BIG DEAL. The last days of sophomore year you need to meet with him weekly, you have to do large summer assignments, purchase other books. Do a DBQ biweekly. I did it my own way however, ended up with one of the only few fives in my school, out of 55 kids (although i heard the test had a record low 8% 5 rate? Not sure though.) It is not that bad at all. I would say however you really do need to know your stuff, and I already had a strong USH background which really helped.

The APUSH exam is slightly less enjoyable than killing yourself, which you will probably imagine doing several times before it is over. And you should definitely take it.
