AP

How hard is AP bio and AP US history?? I will be going into APUSH year 10 and AP bio year 11. Thanks!

I’m taking AP US History right now as a sophomore. It’s not just memorizing facts and dates (hopefully you knew that). You’re going to have to learn how to analyze a document and use it in an argument, connect different periods of history together, use historical evidence to support an argument, learn how things stay the same and change over time in history, and you’ll have to learn how to take exceptional notes (exceptional may be going too far, but your notes should be very organized and neat. If you can’t write all that well, that’s okay! I started typing my notes about halfway through the year. But you WILL need to learn to write at least legibly so that the test takers can read your essays.) Ultimately, if you love history, it should be a BLAST. But I did not take US History beforehand, so some of the stuff I hadn’t talked about since middle school – some of it I had never talked about. But it will help you become a better reader, writer, and arguer – helpful for later courses like AP English.

AP Biology I don’t know about. I’m taking it senior year. However, I have heard it is an insane amount of memorization. But if biology interests you, go for it! It will definitely help in college.

Both of these classes take a lot of your time, and are both regarded as some of the hardest APs, along with the 2 AP Englishes and AP Calculus BC. So I’m glad to see that you’re not taking them both in the same year, you’ll still have a social life :slight_smile:

But if you have the work ethic, and the drive and dedication to make yourself better – then these classes could reap tons of rewards for you. So go for it! :slight_smile:

APUSH is not that difficult. If you use common sense and if you like history you should get good grades. Unlike what @MNballer19 said APUSH at my school is about memorization - you have quizzes every week and DBQs every month. Memorization helps because then you can instantly find similar situations in history and compare and contrast, which is very improtant I guess. Also it helps if you prepare for the APUSH exam essay because its 20% of the grade

@maxim2001

It is incredibly different from a normal history class, you have to cover the entire span of US history. I can tell that the news media has been brainwashing you with fake news. That is an incredibly fallacious statement on your behalf. It IS hard, and it’s probably the hardest AP. You have to effectively memorize 500+ years of history and know every little detail in there if you want to get a 5. The quizzes aren’t based on memorization, it’s based on if you can analyze history over time and see what changes. And I didn’t say there was NO memorization. I said it’s not all about that. You have to use your historical thinking skills to form a logical argument. You can’t just list off events you memorized. Next time, don’t tell a plethora of lies.

@MNballer19

I hope you realize that @maxim2001 said at HIS school, not at yours. Please read what others write, you obviously don’t know the class as well at his school than he does.

I’m taking AP Bio as a sophomore and I really hate it hahaha. I hate to sound negative, but the class itself is a gpa killer and leaves me with no sleep. This is my teacher’s first year teaching at all, and has no experience in biology besides taking it in college. Our class averages on tests are D’s and F’s, 5 people dropped the class already, and everyone is drained from the amount of work. All of my friend’s and I think we are going to get 1’s or 2’s on the ap exam in May because we still have another unit to cover lmao. But this all depends on how good your teacher is and your strength in biology.

@MNballer19 you have not taken the APUSH exam so you do not know what you’re talking about. I have, and I know that most of the multiple choice there is about impacts of historic events and stuff, so basically memorization, because most of the stuff is written in the book. A DBQ expects you to use background knowledge to provide arguments. If you just cite the DBQ you won’t get a good grade, you need to connect events and for that you need to remember them.
