I need a topic between 1800 and 1900 and can only use primary sources in the work cited/bibliography i dont want to pick some generic event like the civil war i want something kind of unique that can mabe parallel to today but idk quite what to do ne suggestions would be awesome

Do the Gilded Age.

I agree that the Gilded Age is a good idea. Many students tend to overlook its historical significance, which would only lead to a unique and (hopefully) interesting paper if you research and write it well.

However, I have found that when teachers leave papers wide open as far as subject matter goes, they care less about the topic and more about writing ability, research skills, and historical analysis, so be sure to focus more on that aspect of this paper.

Howsabout the 1800 election? That one was pretty weird...but very significant! Also not too generic.

mexican-american war/texas, trail of tears, jacksonian democracy, causes of the war of 1812, Reconstruction, Big Business, immigration, split between north and south, second great awakening, transcendentalism/utopian/mormon (any of those movements), Populist movement, imperialism...so many good topics
