bump...anyone else? looks like 750+ for a 5...which is reassuring.

Which test prep books for the AP and SAT II are most of you using? For the SAT II, I'm using Barron's and for the AP, I'm using REA.

I get to take apush that friday 3 SAT II's that saturday (math ic, physics, apush) and AP Physics B on monday...YAY!

I got a 5 (and I found it extremely easy) but I got a 690 which is not considered that great considering the huge curve and percentage differences (I think I was 75th%). Yeah the SATII was kinda difficult because it asked all these modern questions from like Johnson/Kennedy on which are hardly (at least in comparision to the proportion) on the AP test.

the curve will be much HARSHER in the MAY OnE, because it's near the AP EXam.

If taken in november, for eg. the curve will be Much easier.

correct??

The curve is based on field testing and is set prior to the test being administered. How students do when a test is given "for real" has no impact on the curve.

REALLY??
SWEEET

then...woundnt may test takers usually score veryyy high?

5 and 790. I took it in May and all the 1980s+ questions screwed me over.

wat % must one get right to get in the 700s??

You can miss about 32 questions out of 90 to get a 700!

This means that you only need to get higher than about a 64%.

...according to Kaplan's SAT II U.S. History 2004-2005 Edition.

Why does that seem way too easy?

Is the curve more generous than that of SAT physics? I noticed a lot of modern questions which I really didn't know the answer to.

i got a 4 on the test and got a 700 on the june sat ii with minimal preparation

For people who have taken them, are the MC questions on the SAT II harder that AP test? Do u suggest I do studying for the SAT II exam even after I've done extensive studying for the APUSH test?

There are more questions than the Physics SAT II, so obviously you can miss more of them. I'm not sure how the ratio of the curves works out though (I do know that high scores in Physics have a much lower percentile, meaning lots of people score well in Physics compared to USH).

I have the REA AP USH book... Will that cover both my AP and SAT II tests? The AP Test is basically the SAT with 2 hours of essay writing tacked on right? I don't want to waste more money on something I don't need (USH SAT II books).

i think the questions were relatively of the same difficulty, but you can get like 20-30 wrong and still do reasonably well. my advice would be not to save that test for last if history isn't your favorite subject because that was one agonizing final hour.

k for everyone that got a 4 or 5 on the Adanced Placement United States History test:

What did you do to prepare?
What books did you use?
And how much in advance did you start preparing? Did you cram?
Did you do a lot of practice tests to prepare?
Did you listen in class the whole year and pay attention? (This is kinda crucial because someone could have not done a lot of review and get a 5 just by listening in class, while another person may have had to review a whole lot and not pay attention in class)
Any other comments??

You don't have to answer every question like formally or anything, just any basic idea of what we can expect?

Can you still get a 4 if you do well on the mc but bad on the essays?

I nd to know what books to get as well, right now i have barrons but they are crap.

ElCommando, test is out of 180 raw points. ~120 is a 5. ~105 is a 4.

I'm not sure how good is "good" for MC & how bad is "bad" for the essays, but here's a couple examples. This is assuming you guess on all of them as well.

70/80 MC + 2 "6" & 1 "5" essays = 5
70/80 MC + 3 "4" essays =4
60/80 MC + 2 "7" & 1 "6" essays = 5
60/80 MC + 3 "5" essays = 4
50/80 MC + 3 "8" essays = 5
50/80 MC + 1 "7" & 2 "6" essays = 4

hope that helps...they may not be totally accurate, just estimated in my head. but i assure you they are close.

What did you do to prepare? - Barron's, but I stopped using it because it sucked

What books did you use? - American Pageant, it was fantastic

And how much in advance did you start preparing? Did you cram? - We had to make study groups starting about 1.5 months before. I think we met and studied for a total of about 10 hours. We mostly just each bought different review books and then asked the MC questions out of them to each other.

Did you do a lot of practice tests to prepare? - None

Did you listen in class the whole year and pay attention? - Although the teacher knew a lot, he didn't really cover information that was necessary for the exam, just stuff that was on a tangent to whatever we were studying. I paid attention, but I didn't take notes or anything like that.

Any other comments? - Breathe deeply
