Hey, I'm sure this question has been posed many time and I apologize for the redundancy, but does anyone know the main differences between the exams? The formats are different, but would studying with an APUSH book suffice for a 750+ on the SAT II? Also, are there content differences? Any advice will help. Thanks!

Im wondering this too

bump cause i want to know.

I’m not sure about APUSH and SAT 2 in US History (both of which my son is taking in May). He took AP Euro and SAT 2 in World History last year and did not do any separate studying for the SAT; he got a 750 and a 5 on the AP. I am sure it will be the same this year, that’s why I scheduled him for the test the weekend after the AP.

It is my understanding that the SAT II has more nitpicky, detailed questions in the multiple choice section.

Strong studying for the AP test is definitely sufficient, though.

I am taking the the US history SAT II the day after the AP test as well, since last year, I took World History a month after the AP test (only time offered), and had forgotten too much and got a 760. (I know not bad, but history has been my passion since 3rd grade, so I should have been able to get an 800)

Alright, thanks. I’ll just do some intense studying before both exams and hopefully that will be enough. Thanks!

Hey I took both last year. I studied from an ap book like I would normally for an ap exam, but I got an sat II book and took 1 or 2 practice tests. Got an 800 and a 5 so it worked I guess.

which SAT II books do you suggest?

Any AP book is fine.
AP exams are harder than the SAT 2s, so prepare with them, in any subject.

I took both last year. The questions are similiar, so after studying for the AP test you should be very well prepared for the SAT subject test. The US history SAT is often referred to as “eras-based” because you can answer a lot of the questions on the test by knowing general trends and themes in US history. I used the Princeton Review book for the SAT subject test and felt it pretty well covered the material.

What score did you happen to receive?

^I’m not sure if this is directed to me but whatever.
800 and 5, USH is my best subject.

I see… Do you have any experience with the direct hits USH book? Should i read it simultaneously with Amsco from the beginning and read a chapter a day? or is that a bad idea since i’ll have forgotten most it by then?
