AP vs. IB, which is more hardcore?

Ah yes... Myers Park

Ranked 7th in the nation...I would probably be there if I lived in the gold zone.

i get a 1-7 scale too, elodie.

o ya yz?? wht grades do u usaully get...like whats "ur sample report card " like....sry i realize im lame

hi elodie:

i get two grades a year
Since 9th grade, all my grades have been 6s or 7s.
Below, I've left out gym, because most schools don't count it, but if you're curious, i've always gotten a 6 except for one 7 in 10th grade.

9th: 53/56, 54/56
10th: 57/58, 58/58

then into the IB course:
11th: 41/42 and 'Good' for TOK, 42/42 and 'Excellent' for TOK
12th: 42/42 and 'Excellent' for TOK, grades for 2nd term in progress

hehe, no, you're not lame - but why do you ask?

o ok thnx a lot u really did help!! i was just wondering cuz im new to the whole 1-7 system and so its a bit confising to know weather or not my grades are good or wtv....i mean im the top in the grade but our grade consists of like 8 ppl...the grades iv been getting r like mostly 6s and a few 7s soo i suppose thts ok thnx so much u have done me a huge favor now im not like OMG OMG OMG!!

IB is easy ! all it is, a trimmed version of the French Baccalaureat

It really depends on the class you know! I take both IBs and APs, so i know. AP Bio, Lit, Chem, Physics, Calc...they're all so much FREAKING harder than the IB version of those courses. Believe me, IB is so much more relaxed. You get like a year and a half to turn in your IAs...like ***!! lol. oookay, in college u'd prolly have to turn that kinda stuff in within a few weeks. what a joke. Also take into consideration that AP is a one year course, where 2 years worth of material has been squashed in. Whereas the "IB" people take their time to learn their stuff, AP is a rush. You either get it and move on or you don't. AP requires a lot of self-motivation and talent. IB, you can get through without doing your homework. Except of cousre for those math and science courses. Although IB requires all that extra c.r.a.p, which is supposed to expand your knowledge on the subject, when in reality it's just a waste of your time...I'd much rather vote AP anytime!!! It will work you wonders if you really like the subject, because there's such a strong focus on it, and you actually feel involved in what's going on in class. AP courses become a part of you, because it's more like a test after test and grinding lessons day after day on stuff that really matters. APs are so much up-to-date, while IBs are such gung-ho c.r.a.p. Of course, except for a few courses...i dunno, but it's just cos IB Chem is the only IB class where i actually learn stuff.

Sometimes I wonder, is IB a scam?

IB is probably a scam since its a rip off of a more rigorous course

For the students whose schools don't offer IB do you think they're at a disadvantage(with admissions)?

I personally agree that IB seems harder although I have never taken them because they have not been offered. BUT, that being said, I'm not so sure they're worth it. To some extent you should challenge yourself but only to a point. AP used to be like IB... very regulated and tough... then become "dumbed" down as it got more mainstream... just wait, this will be IB in a few years.

anovice, IB isn't so widespread that it will put kids whose schools don't offer IB at a disadvantage. I wouldn't worry about it - as long as you take the most challenging courses (presumably AP), colleges will view you in the same way, I assume. In my minds, AP = IB ... IB is definitely more hardcore and I think the work is too excessive and often unnecessary, as I've said, but colleges view the same with similar mindset, I think.

I don't think IB will get to a point where it is mainstream just because not many schools will offer it.
I don't think many teachers want to go through all of the prep stuff to learn about IB and grading all of the IA's, EE's, and stuff.

Its just busy work for them.

i don't know about a scam, but IB's definitely got a Hidden Liberal Agenda.

there was this whole article, i do'nt know if anybody else around the country read it. but it was an attempt to slander IB for promoting extremist social consciousness and rabid environmentalism, or something to that effect. it was pretty good. i bet somebody could find it online.

How about how much money it takes to get IB approved? Our district spent tens of thousands getting a few of its schools IB approved. It's ridiculous. AP certification can be done at most major universities, not that big of a deal. IB certification usually requires cross country trips of many teachers. That's airfare, hotel, and stipend (for food and stuff I would assume).

I think this might be the article about IB, courtette44. I thought it was interesting...:)

that's it! excellent job. RADICAL environmentalism, sorry. my bad. everybody should read it, it made my life.
