Hi,

I was taking the AP World History course the entire year until March, but i learned relatively nothing. Now i am not in that school anymore and the teacher said if i pass the AP Exam with a 4 or above he will give me an A in the class for the report card.

I was wondering if Princeton Review for AP World History 2009 edition could be used as a stand-alone text, without reading the textbook, and will be able to get me a 4 or 5 on the AP exam?

EDIT: Assume i am self-studying AP World.

I think Princeton Review may cut it (I am using that right now and it provides a good essential summary over the material), although you may consider getting Barron’s since it goes more in-depth than Princeton’s.

Could you give me some tips; like should i read then whole PR and then re-read it + take practice exams? Or do you recommend that i NEED a textbook or other material to earn a 4 or 5?

Well, I unfortunately had a pretty bad teacher and learned relatively nothing like yourself. Additionally, I also have textbook which Amazon customers say is absolutely horrendous (and from what I’ve had to read, it is), so studying from that is pretty much out of the question.

Anyways, what I’m doing is reading one section of the study guide (out of the total give) per day until the exam. If you do the same, you’ll definitely want to concentrate on memorizing facts and being able to use those facts to describe interactions between the different cultures for the essays. I’d also recommend practicing writing an essay either every day or every other day, depending on your schedule. Also consider getting a MC question packet and answering a few questions each day, and then take a practice exam during the weekend.

Anyways, hope this helps.

If you were to go with just a prep book, Barron’s is definitely the best and most detailed. I’ve used it all year to supplement my coursework and such, but it’s fairly in-depth for just a review. As such, I’m using 5 Steps to a 5 to review.

I just bought Barrons and i’m impressed.

Has anyone else had any experience with Barron’s over PR, and find it better?
