***AP World History Thread 2015-2016***

According to College Board, historical context can be an “extraregional” or “historical process” that serves to explain the change or continuity. So, you could have talked about, for example, how the desire for spices by Europeans contributed to trade in the Indian Ocean. This was an example that college board gave for a similar CCOT over trade in 2008, so it is obviously correct.

It sounds like a lot of us, including myself, misread either or both the CC or the CCOT, so hopefully the curve will accommodate that. What do you guys think?

I misread the CC so I didn’t see the word causes

Hey, I know I’m new to this thread. (Have been reading/stalking it over though haha) But, can you guys help me out with how I did on the essays… The MC I think the very least = 55/70. I’m really wishing for that 5.

DBQ:
I grouped by how political positions of: communism/socialism want female equality , the government fears women’s political participation, and feminism (social and political movt).

CCOT:
I aced this. I had this so memorized and was so happy when I saw this prompt. However, I had to try stuffing in similarities in thesis because I forgot ): Also, for the end (1450), does it count to show affects of things in that time area, such as the age of exploration right? (Similar to global context?)

Compare and Contrast:
I did the same mistake. Didn’t see “causes.” So, this has been stressing me out. But, I usually just write a bunch of comparisons anyways rather than just two each. Some of this won’t be correct because of causes, but I’ll write everything that I wrote…
Differences: Americans had no rep or power; French had rep, but barely any power. French wanted more political power, American wanted to be free. French could attack directly due to position, Americans were on a separate continent. French had more political unrest after the revolution (Robespierre and Napoleon), meanwhile Americans were independent.
Similarities: enlightenment ideals, influenced revolutions, created their own governing bodies (National Assembly and Americans with the colonies and democracy), both felt unfairly represented, created basic right docs (rights and citizen, then Americans with the Declaration of Independence)

@wannabeivykid I’m totally in the same position as you. I think that it’s very possible that we could get a 5 since so many people made the same mistake. For the Compare, you should be able to get around 3-4 points and your other essays should be able to even it out and help you out.

Hey guys, I have a general question. If upon seeing our scores, we decide that they are not up to par (as I’m afraid mine might not be) is it better to send them in anyway as part of college apps or not? I’ve done pretty well in my World class, but I heard that getting an A in the class but a 3 on the exam (if you send it in) could imply grade inflation. However, wouldn’t it also look bad if a college were to see that you took the class, did well in it, but didn’t take the exam (or decided not to send scores?) I know it’s early to be wondering this, but i’ve heard multiple people giving me mixed opinions.

Anyway, be glad that the class is over! My teacher is actually traveling to Salt Lake City to grade essays in June. She said she doesn’t want to be assigned the CCOT, but knowing her luck, she’d probably end up getting it

I took the make-up exam today and it actually wasn’t too bad, far easier than I expected :). Honestly on all the practice exams I’ve taken and exams from past years, I felt like I was guessing on everything, but on this one I felt like I knew a good amount of the questions they put on there. Hope everyone did well on the exam!

@thecolourist If you get below a passing score I would be wary of sending your score to colleges. Very rarely do people do so.

Did anyone took the Sat II exam yesterday?

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

There is a thread about the WH Subject Test [here](Did anyone took the Sat II exam yesterday?). Feel free to post there. I’ve deleted the several responses to the above question, as they do not apply to APWH.

Trevor Packer, the head of AP, tweeted out the statistics about world history.

5: 6.5%, 4: 15.5%, 3: 29.2%, 2: 28.9%, 1: 19.9%

Another subject w/score gains this yr: AP World History. Increased % of 3s,4s, decreased % of 1s,2s. % of 5s virtually the same as last yr.
Students did well across the multiple-choice questions, finding period 5 (1750-1900) slightly more difficult than the rest.
On the AP World History Document-Based Question (DBQ), the average score was 2.96 out of 9 points possible.
Why not more 5s on AP World History? Students struggled with both the CCOT & Comparison essays, w/30% of students earning 0 points on them.

@cjjc256 The College Board likely knows, and they’re not telling. Anyone else is just giving a baseless opinion.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any idea about the amount of question/essay points one has to get right in order to achieve at least a 3 on the 2016 APWH exam? The curves in past years have been all over the place, and I’m not sure what to think. I realize this information most likely isn’t available to the public, but I thought someone might be able to give me a ballpark figure. Thanks!

5!

Well, 30 percent of students got a 0 on the CCOT and comparison, and the average DBQ score was a 3. If you did well on the essays and multiple choice, no reason you shouldn’t get a 4 or 5.

5

I got a five ! It seems that last essay didn’t affect my overall score as much as I though it would.

I got a 5!! Even though I thought I did quite horribly on at least two of my essays. I know I knocked it out of the park with the MC, so maybe that made up for it.

Got a 4 which I’m fine with

I had to rewrite my CCOT because i didn’t see the word economics, I’m glad I caught it though
