AP World History

It AP World History an enjoyable class?
Next year is the first year that my school is offering it and I signed up for it as an extra AP.
Is it worth taking?
How hard do you guys think it is?
I liked Honors World History but I’m also going to be taking 5 other AP so I don’t know if it will be worth my time.

It is a pretty face paced class which includes a lot of reading, writing, and analysis. It is on the easier end of the AP spectrum, but it is also very enjoyable and beneficial is you like history. Id advise you to take the APs which relate to your interests

Warning: DO NOT take the class unless you are genuinely interested in history. Keep in mind that I am a student taking it this year. AP World at my school is a sophomore class, although it varies from school to school. A lot of people in my grade who are taking it now thought it would be an easy GPA boost, as I did… Definitely NOT the case! There’s a lot of reading and writing notes, but it doesn’t help much on the tests (You’ll understand why if you look at the example question I gave down below). You also have to do all the studying independently. The problem with AP world is that tests are the majority of your grade, and they are multiple choice tests. The test questions are really hard and wordy.

It is NOT as simple as:

“What year did this person…”
A
B
C
D
E

But rather, the tests are a lot more complicated like this:

"How does the authority and power of the state in 15th century China, indirectly affected by the prolonged social class structure typical in earlier second-wave civilizations, compare to that of Europe during the Renaissance?
A (long answer that sounds right)
B (long answer that sounds right)
C (long answer that sounds right)
D (long answer that sounds right)
E (long answer that is incorrect - have fun guessing between the other four)

Lol, I’m sorry for my really long response. I just don’t want you to have to suffer like me this year. A lot of my class got B’s C’s and some D’s too. I was lucky enough to barely pull off an 80% . I’d prefer Calculus over this class. Besides, you have other good classes, so you can skip the AP history.

As it is with all harder classes, take AP World History if you’re actually interested in history. There’s no point in enduring a difficult subject if you find it boring or have no real interest in it. WHAP is hard, but I am a history/humanities person so I never hated the large amounts of work or writing required for the class.

My DD took it last year. It dominated her existence, quite ridiculous. She got a good grade on the AP test and all As in the class, but she dragged that damn history book everywhere, including Christmas family visit. AP Calculus, Chem this year is much easier she says. And she’s very good at English and humanities. The world history class was just SO much content.

If you love it it will be a breeze, if you hate history you will be in a bad place.

History seems like a breeze to me since I love it so much. And then I go and have no clue about what is even going on in science…

I would say that if you enjoyed honors, you should enjoy AP

I do enjoy history but it is not my favorite subject. I’m more of a science person. I’m doing pretty well I’m APUSH this year though.

if you have general knowledge of world history you should be fine. Keep in mind you will go through all of the world’s history in one school year, so most of the stuff is common knowledge. The hard part is critical thinking, but you should catch on pretty quick.

I absolutely loved the class. The hardest material for me was definitely in the beginning of the year because it tends to be more abstract than the later material. However, I took AP World when it was the old curriculum so this could change. I would recommend the class to anyone because it really helps you look at perspectives outside of the United States.
