I can't take AP World as a class, but I took APUSH last year (as a sophomore) and got a 4 on the test. Is it feasible to self-study for the test? Has anyone done that? How much work is involved/how did you do it?

Thanks in advance.

i haven't self-studied for AP World History but I do think it is feasible to self-study for the test. It will be a lot of work and memorization. The fact that you have already taken an AP history test is good. What I would do if I were you is, I would ask the the AP World History teacher if you can use the textbook they use, and get the assignments and see if they would be willing to look at your work. Hope I helped :)

I'm sure World is possible to self-study, but I have noticed that many colleges don't give credit for AP World, while they do for AP Euro, which I self-studied with my Honors Global Class (NY Regents) and got a 5. Just to keep in mind.

Also I know at a local boy's school World is a two-year course. . .so it probably has alot more info. than Euro.

There are a bunch of good websites, and all I say is get a really good review book (as well as what Ilovesoftball44 wrote)

What kind of history/social studies are you taking in school?

Thanks softball and katia. I'm currently taking a pre-ap world history class; the reason I couldn't get into the AP World class is because the class is restricted to sophomores and it's full as it is (there's only one class). So I asked the ap world teacher, who also happens to be my pre-ap world teacher, if I could check out a textbook and have a copy of their assignments and tests (as you suggested ilovesoftball).

What are the best review books?

I'd say purchase Princeton Review and you should be fine.

i say go for it

i took regular world history cuz AP wasnt offered at my school but i took the exam and i got a 4. (i had to study the first fifth of world history by myself becuz my class didnt cover ancient times)

oh and i wrote a total BS essay about the mongols. i knew like one fact and totally bs'ed the rest. and i still got a 4 haha. and my dbq was probably awful, i had only written one before.

I partially self-studied AP World History last year ( I was in Pre-AP World History then, but the course definately doesn't get you to the level needed to pass AP exams.), and got a 5, so it's definately feasible. Be sure to look at the Africans, Latin Americans, and Asians, instead of focusing on only western history, and get princeton review, and you'll be fine. Another helpful too is the Sparknotes AP World preparing kit, the ready-made flashcards are good tool for cramming before the test. Just be sure to practice for the free-response with the released exams, instead of going with whatever PR gives you. I learned that the hard way last year.
