Should I be taking AP Microeconomics, since I have no SAT Subject test other than Math level to take? And, I’m planning to apply to Cornell University for Majors in Economics. Please suggest? What if I don’t?
No one can answer that question with the information given. Do you mean take AP micro as a class next year, or the just the standalone ap test? If you mean just the test alone, most likely you’ll do bad on it without learning properly AP microeconomics. Most schools don’t have you declare a major until your at the university for a year or two, so if you apply to Cornell under economics they’re not going to be like “you haven’t taken enough economics yet”. GPA, test scores, essays, ECs are what matter-- subject tests and specific APs scores don’t unless you do great on them and want to summit to brag. If you mean take AP micro as a class next year and you want to take the class because you might major in it, then it’s a no brainer-- take it.
I meant AP Micro test. And I don’t have good grades in 9th and 11th(like 70% only). Neither I’ll be able to take 2 SAT subject tests. What should I do in that case? The college demands me to take atleast 2 SAT Subject tests.
If the college requires 2 subject tests, you have no choice; you need to submit 2 subject tests. If you don’t, your application will be incomplete.
??? You’re getting 70s in NINTH and ELEVENTH grade econ classes but you wish to apply to one of the most selective colleges in the USA to MAJOR in Economics?
Please help us understand your logic behind this. It’s clear that you’re nothing but a middling economics student, if that. Besides the lack of a 2nd SAT2 test as skieurope speaks about – you have some serious gaps in your ability to pick reasonable target colleges and potential majors.
Hey, that might be true, but say it in a nicer way.
However, do consider your situation. Unless you’re going to make some breakthrough immediately and get AP Micro down so well the teacher is impressed, try to realistically set new goals.
@POKO55 Why not? Unless only one subject test is offered in your region/country, you have to take 2 subject tests if they’re required.
If you need a second subject test, I don’t believe there is even an economics SAT II offered.
People, see I belong to India where the education system is pathetic. Economics here in 11th is nothing but garbage (Indian economy), however, 12th grade Economics is something to be called as Eco; at least we study something practical. @T26E4 I accept your apologies. I know I have some serious drawbacks in my app. Doesn’t mean I am middler in Eco. I even some Economics related courses under my belt. So, yeah. @MITer94 , I belong to Commerce Stream, wherein I have subjects like Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics and English. So, I cannot take any subject test other than Math. @Matt846 no there isn’t any. That’s why I am considering taking AP Micro test.
AP tests will not replace required SAT subject tests; end of story. Based upon your stream, you can take the Literature Subject Test. If you choose not to, that’s on you; do not blame your country’s educational system. Alternatively, you can apply to any university that does not require subject tests (which is the vast majority.)
@POKO55 yes, you can. Take whichever additional subject test you are most comfortable with (could be literature, physics, etc.). The fact that your curriculum only includes math/economics doesn’t excuse you from an application requirement. Additionally, you probably won’t want to take Math I and Math II to fulfill those requirements.
Guys, if he’s in the Indian education system, then it might be a problem. See, kids in that system have to undertake one of three “streams”, which are Commerce, Humanities or Science. They have to pick one in the 11th grade. So his knowledge in any Subject Test aside from Math will be close to zero.
OP, you have no choice. Take the Math II and Lit Test. End of story. Either that, or look into universities which don’t require SAT Subject Tests. End of story. You won’t receive any help in this situation beyond what is already said above.
@DarkEclipse you completely understand my situation. So the AP test won’t suffice my Subject test, right?
As I said in post 10 and @DarkEclipse said in post 12, that is correct; an AP test will not take the place of a subject test.
@POKO55 That’s correct.
