i've known people who have started college as a sophomore because they did so well on their AP exams...

i was just wondering, how many different AP subjects do you need to take in order to start college as a sophomore? (assuming that you score decently on the exams)

Absolutely depends on the school as far as the score they will accept and the number of credits they will give you for a class.

I have two sons, both in college.

Son 1- 13 AP’s + 1 college credit class
Son 2- 7 AP’s + 1 college credit class

They were both offered 45 credits by their colleges (different colleges). They both did very well on the AP test. Son 2’s school gave him more credit for the science classes to include lab time, etc where Son 1’s school just gave him 3 credits for those same classes.

Son 1- 12 AP (+ college credit class) accepted by his school.

Also, thought his does not pertain to either of my sons, some schools will give you general credit but not specific class credit, meaning you still have to take the class again if you need it for gen ed or your major.
Son 2- 7 AP (+ college credit class) accepted by his school.
