what are the pros and cons?

Are you a transfer or new student?

I've found that apartment bathrooms are WAY messier than dorms. In the dorms someone comes to clean it every few days - in the apartments it's up to just you and your housemates...which may or may not ever get done.

And the apartments should cost the same as the dorms, all housing prices on campus are standardized. The differences are based on roommates, or lack thereof.

i'm an incoming freshman

Well unless you're in Kresge, you don't have the option of apartments as a freshman.
