Oops, now I’m confused. I have only received the UC e-mail, nothing specific from UCLA. Perhaps we’re all mixing up the naming convention?

^ Yeah, I was referring to the confirmation from UCLA. A few kids from pages back said they had received it already.

It looks like predicthisflick said that. I wonder if they meant “UC” and not “UCLA”.

I’m kinda offended that UC extended the deadline two days. Should slackers who couldn’t figure out that they ARE in fact supposed to show up by November 30, when they were told to show up by November 30, be let off the hook? Not trying to be a jerk but be a freakin adult ya slackers.

^Ugh. Hater.

I got my app in on time fwiw.

Yeah, I got conformation from UCLA earlier today. I submitted almost two weeks ago.

Let us use this opportunity then to be humble, shall we, cooldude6? Humility is a godsend.

Although cooldude6 may have phrased it somewhat crudely, I think I have to agree with his point. While I am happy and glad for those of you who are able to turn your applications in later, I feel it is ultimately unfair to individual who chose to, if you will, ‘played by the rule’ and submitted it on time.

I am not trying to make any assumptions that those of who didn’t, procrastinated or ‘slacked off’ as cooldude6 implied, as I am sure the majority of you have your reasons. I just wish the playing field is the same for everyone, that’s all.

They should have said:

“Applications received after Nov. 30 will be given to the CSU system”

hah

I applied on Nov. 13 and received the email from UCLA on Nov. 25. Just to give you guys a time frame.

If nothing else, allowing extra time for people to apply pumps more money into the UC system.

Gotta love that anyone who challenges the idea of extending the deadline by 2 days gets flamed. I can see a 12 hour extension to let those who would have completed their application on time turn it in… but 48 hours? Seems to me people who are submitting their application tomorrow at 8:00pm are not as passionate about this process as those who were on the deadline. Just my opinion.

^ on the UC site, it read that people were experiencing trouble up to 48 hours before the deadline… forget that, though. let’s say it was only 12 hours before the deadline that people were experiencing problems… regardless, that’s 12 hours that people counted on having for months in advance. if you make up for it by simply extending the deadline an additional 12 hours, by giving them zero notice, you might be phu3king the people who’s already got obligations during those hours. you could always argue that they should have taken care of sh7t sooner, but not everyone is as responsible as you.

also, since when does passion have anything to do with merit?

To some extent, I can agree that the 48 hour extension is a bit TOO lenient. However, you should also mind that there are also people that may not check CC or even email/call to inquire about the website issues. Of these people, it is a safer bet that most of them will learn about the given extension if word spreads about it (2 days should technically do the trick). Of course you can argue that if they are passionate enough about transferring, then they should have been pressing F5 till 4am on the deadline. Nonetheless, the UC system will love 2 more days worth of application fees. Possibly to upgrade their servers? Doubtful. Although Pres. Yudof sure seems like he wants to finally hit that $1 mil salary point.

I think the extension was really necessary, the server was crashing for 2 nights before the due date. There are many people who were still trying to perfect their personal statements even though they had already filled out the rest of the application. The website was so bad you couldn’t even login! Of course an extension should be granted

The two day extension just mimics my job an awful lot at school. People have to come to where I work to get a “Late Add” approved because they didn’t add the class by the deadline to add. Even when there is a decent excuse, it could have been avoided with a teeny weeny bit of foresight. That’s all I’m saying.

everyone is just mad because they have more competition with the thousands of extra apps flowing in during the 48 hour extension. Who cares; if you have good enough stats you shouldn’t be worried. Besides, the extension is mainly for extra revenue. It’s not like they are going to accept more people than last year.

And don’t people read the application warning in advance? It specifically states that you should not wait till the last couple of days because the server tends to crash. Or is there something more important applicants were doing for 30 straight days?

Not to mention that it stands to reason that slackers have lower stats and those that got theirs done early have better stats. Should the well-planned really be concerned about the slackers? Besides, this being a transfer forum, shouldn’t most of us be coming in with IGETC and TAG? I can see freshmen being concerned, but transfers shouldn’t have much to worry about aside from completing their applications correctly, doing the update, turning in their paperwork, attending admit day and registering.

^^^not really. alot of people who have poor stats feel like they need to work harder on the app and thus they start and submit early. other people, like myself, have pretty good stats and didn’t feel the need to put that much emphasis on my application. i wrote my statements over thanksgiving wkend (maybe 8/10 or 8.5/10) so i’m not feeling that worried. i could have wrote better statements but w/e…

Still though, if you’re IGETC & TAG like you should be if you’re a community college transfer, why worry?

And I have decent stats too, and like you, got in late, but most smart people I know had applied well before the end of the application period and had been nagging me to do the same.
