Is it possible to appeal an admission decision to UIUC?

Thanks

i'd like to know this too. do senior mid year grades have any affect on decisions? mine were sent after the decision came out, and i'm pretty sure my strong grades would have had a good impact on my admission.

even if you could, idk if its possible, the best i think would be a position on the waitlist...idk if you're already on the waitlist

There is an appeals process. Unless you reall think you should have gotten in it's really not worth wasting your time though. (i know everyone THINKS they should get in, but be realistic....i.e. was your ACT high enough, GPA high enough, class rank good enough, etc etc).

My (transfer) admission was the result of a successful appeal though, so it exists and it CAN work, but the odds are definitely not at all in your favor. The process is for providing new and relevent information.

I suggest you call admissions and ask why you were rejected. They will tell you. If it wasn't for your grades, ACT, class rank..then maybe an appeal is an option. I was told my grades were good, but my essays did not show desire to study advertising. Somehow I changed their mind in my appeal letter. I'm willing to help anyone who REALLY should have gotten in. It's a waste of admissions' time if you got a 24 on your ACT and a 3.4 GPA and want in though. Let me know if you have questions.

not trying to threadsteal...but how much do 1st semester senior grades really count? hypothetically speaking..if I fail a class my senior year but don't send them grades until after I'm accepted, would it be likely that my acceptance be rescinded?

^haha how that's related to an appeals process at all is beyond me. to sort of answer the question: from everything i've heard it's pretty rare to have admission taken away...BUT it does happen. Failing a class after being accepted would put you well on your way. Don't give up now, C's and maaaaybe even a D are probably not a big deal, but an F sounds dangerous to me. If it's too late and you already got that F then pick it up second semester.

maintain a 3.0 unweighted gpa and i agree with krbarrett77. C's and a D wont be a big deal but F's...

thx..yeah i got all As and Bs (and was admitted early) but my friend is still trying to get in and he's waitlisted and received an F in english. apparently he still doesn't know if he got in yet...

thanks for hijacking my thread :(

you mean MINE thread.

krbarrett,

what do you mean by "It's a waste of admissions' time if you got a 24 on your ACT and a 3.4 GPA and want in though"

Isn't 3.4 a good GPA?

weighted or unweighted. even unweighted its OK
24 ACT is very very low.

hey aihara, what wsa your GPA and SAT?

i had a 2.92 unweighted (3.4 weighted) and 1410.

however, if my senior grades were counted, it would have been like 3.1.

still, i was hoping this would be enough to at least get me waitlisted but not a flat out rejection.

i got in with 22XX(15XX old scale) SATs and a 3.1 GPA... i also got a call and notified that I got merit scholarship....so the GPA's fine

yeah 3.4 is sorta safe no matter how you cut it, but judging by the talent of the applicants i've seen get rejected so far this year, i raised my guess. just use your descretion i guess was my bottom line. If you were a shoe-in and got rejected maybe you'd have some arguments or new evidence to provide. If you really felt 50/50 or knew you'd need a miracle to get in, it's probably not worth their time or yours. but hey, neither me or admissions can stop you, so do what you like!

krbarrett77, you think i should feel this way?

as i stated:

i had a 2.92 unweighted (3.4 weighted) and 1410 SAT (1600 scale)

however, if my senior grades were counted, it would have been like 3.1 but i do not know if they even care about senior grades

Student 1:

I'd recommend calling them and asking why you were rejected if you havn't already. For all we know it could have been the essays or class rank or something and not the GPA...although it is on the low side.

But if this SAT-ACT conversion chart on collegeboard is right, a 1410 is a great score and I'm sort of suprised about the rejection..but sort of not at the same time. The university is pretty concerned with GPA...but i think class rank, test scores, and essays are all above it on the list...at least according to collegeboard they are. I'm not sure what to tell you, i'm sorta torn. If you do appeal, your letter might be wise to bring senior grades and interest in your major to their attention. Don't get your hopes up or anything though, the odds of appeals working are soo poor. :(

yeah, no doubt about that. thanks for the words of encouragement though :)

haha, dont mean to bum people out. i wish everyone the best of luck!

krbarrett, you say your transfer was due to an appeal? You can appeal for transfer admission too?

How much do you time from the day you get your rejection letter to appeal? Thanks

your admission status could also have something to do with your extracurriculars and essays. When I went through the admissions process, the admissions counselors most often said that EVERYONE
