I am sure I'm not alone in this matter, as many of us freshmen college students are facing the crisis of a either late or 'just didn't get there' information which caused us our aid. I was just told to send back an appeal to explain why I was late, and I want to know if there is a certain format that would most benefit my chances of getting the aid back or is it something you should just be informal about.

If someone can help, or need to ask about this matter in greater detail, please voice your opinion. This is my first time opening a thread in a academic related forum so I apologize in advance if I have made any mistakes.

The problem with being late in applying for aid, is that most all of the money has been distributed. For schools on tight budgets, that is a serious matter. However, they do want to help out those who truly had good reason to be late.

Hmmm…not sure many freshmen would be in that position as FA awards are usually sent well before the May 1st deadline! What is it you were missing - FAFSA, Profile, State aid app, or verification forms? If you post which school this is you might get some better feedback.

I would make sure everything was complete and write a letter explaining why you missed all the deadlines. Except for government aid and loans, it may not make much difference at this point since most schools have given out all they have to give, so be prepared for the worst.

UC San Diego didn’t tell me what was late, except the fact that stuff due on May 1st was late. And all I know is that the verification worksheet thingie was the only thing I didn’t turn in one time because the mail they send you to fill out all those things didn’t get to me til June. Maybe that was why. I just hope UCSD have enough money left over this year.

Would this be related to your CalGrant? Or was it a FAFSA verification? Can’t you check your FA status online or by phone to see what’s missing (ie compare it to your original offer)?

Nay, it is that one grant they call UCSD grant.
