Appeal Ivy Financial Aid a Second Time?

I appealed my finaid at Ivy 1, asking them to match my finaid at Ivy 2. Ivy 1 matched Ivy 2. So I committed to Ivy 1. Now, if I am accepted off the waitlist at Ivy 3 with better finaid than Ivy 1, can I appeal my finaid at Ivy 1 again, asking them to match Ivy 3? Will it look greedy or otherwise inappropriate?

Yes.

I agree, but that’s just my feeling. Do you have any info you can share? tx

If you are still on The waitlist for school 3, it’s presumably because you want that school more than the others. If that offer comes in better…take it.

If you don’t plan to attend school 3, get off the waitlist.

Yes…it’s greedy

The stated rationale for Ivies matching FA is that they want fit, not cost, to be the deciding factor for those admitted to multiple Ivies. If you’d prefer Ivy 1 there’s nothing greedy or inappropriate IMO about alerting them that you’ve been offered a better FA package at Ivy 3. (I’m guessing 3 is HYP and the others aren’t, in which case the difference could be significant).

Just keep in mind…Ivy one could very well say “enjoy your time at Ivy 3 if that’s your choice”.

^Yes and I should add that I definitely wouldn’t approach it as if negotiating the price of a car. Just let them know the situation and be nice and humble. They have processes and in some cases budgets in place for this. But we’re in an unprecedented situation for college budgets, so things might be changing. In any case, congrats on all your options!

I don’t know that I would not, or would, choose Ivy 3. I prefer Ivy 1, but if the Ivy 3 finaid is better than Ivy 1, I might choose Ivy 3. My question really is are there any drawbacks to going back to Ivy 1 with a second match request (from Ivy 3)? Could this poison my finaid negotiations with Ivy 1 in later years?

I do not think that it is going to happen

By the time you come off of the waitlist at 3, you will have already committed to Ivy 1 (if the commitment date is still June 1). Remember they probably won’t call the waitlist until they know the yield.

Ivy 1 will have no reason to go back and look at your financial aid again because you have already committed.

Should you come off of the wait list at Ivy 3 and if you feel the aid is better at 3, then go to 3 if you are chasing the bag.
