Has anyone appealed Davis successfully, on the basis that you need to go to Davis for you medical treatment? Thanks
in advance.
I really can’t see that working unless you were accepted to UCB, UCLA, or maybe UCSD and you appealed through the office of the President of UC. Even then, while I would believe it, I would be incredulous.
Otherwise, it seems more to be about you, not about a good match between you and UCD.
@ItsJustSchool What would a successful appeal look like?
From the UC Davis website:
May I appeal my denial of admission?
Appeals are rarely granted. Consideration for appeals is based on new and compelling information, extenuating circumstances and your overall academic record. As part of your appeal, you must include a statement describing your special circumstances, as well as any additional documents such as unofficial academic records and letters of recommendation.
All appeals and supplemental documentation must be submitted online through MyAdmissions—interviews are not granted and appeals received through any other channel will not be considered.
If you medical documentation stating you have to go to Davis for medical treatement? then you would have to supply that information. Not to pry, but it does not seem reasonable that Davis is the only medical facility you can get treatment. So I am assuming you need to stay close to home?? Good Luck and it cannot hurt to try.
The appeal is meant to bring compelling new information to the admissions committee. Imagine a committee convened to consider any oversights or new additional information to an application. You will want to have some help organizing the presention so that it is easy for them to digest, and easy for them to say “yes”. If you can make the case that you have the ability to be accepted to schools that have higher incoming-student statistics, but need to come to Davis for medical reasons, that may be a compelling story for the admissions committee. This will give credibility to the “medical” reason and decouple it from looking like a desperate ‘grab’ to gain acceptance through pity.
I could be a 5 slide powerpoint, a 2 page document, or an email (for example- not literal on page counts, etc.). Just be sure it is well organized, tight, and has a logical and persuasive flow.
Just my perception and opinion- I have absolutely NO authority to be the arbiter of what is the right way to appeal. I offer my advice up for free. It is worth at least what you paid for it.
