Waitlisted, but I want to appeal!

I was waitlisted at UC davis, which is kind of good news considering I thought I was going to be denied and have to appeal. But I found out today that you can’t appeal to davis if you are on the waitlist. All I have is a mere 200 words to say why they should choose me. I was going to appeal on the grounds that my first semester senior grades (4.2 uc gpa) really help my overall gpa (3.3 uc). My test scores were awesome (33 act, 780 bio m satII, 750 math2 satII). So do I spend 200 words talking about my new info? or do I leave that out completely and just talk about why uc davis is a match for me?

full disclosure: i’ve never appealed to a UC nor did my son get in on appeal (he’s a freshman admitted the ‘regular’ way). but i would think that u need to present new evidence that wasn’t contained in your original application/personal statement in order to be successful. don’t u have to submit a statement with the waitlist process? i would also try to get letters of recommendation (teachers, employers, extracurricular program coordinators, etc.) to strengthen the appeal.

buena suerte!

yeeeea and also, the senior grades thing isn’t going to help you. they can’t take those into consideration

Don’t use new test scores or gpa. They don’t care about it. You have to present new evidence such as awards or something. I remember you need teacher recs or something.

Actually you can still appeal but only after they reject you. If you’re on the waitlist and find out you’re rejected then you appeal. I have visited the campus myself and talked with the admissions staff. Hope that helps.

what? wasn’t the statement supposed to be about why you want to go to Davis, not about why they should accept you?

it’s never suppose to be about why they should accept you… you’re not trying to make them feel guilty!

an appeal should contain new evidence such as wrong sat score, wrong class grade, etc. or if you forgot to mention a tragic event or a financial event.

and @tete8000, i don’t think that’s right… you can appeal if you’re rejected or on the waiting list. you just can’t appeal to get on the waiting list. By the time you find out you’ve been rejected when you were on the waiting list… it’s too late . it’s already 5/1 and SIRs are turned in by then.

oh yeah, for the appeal totally lol

how about the 200word waitlist acceptance though?
