Does anyone know what the odds are that an appeal will work? How many students got in on appeal last year?

don't know about 2006, but from info on the UC website in 2003 1,300 people appealed and 95 got in. So I'd say the odds are about 7%, but may be considerably higher if you were one of the people offered Merced since those people were right on the edge of admission.

very low. it's about 5~6%

Do they favor in state as well for appeals?

no i do not believe they favor in state- its all about the extra points you can get through the appeals process. the instate points, etc, have already been included and anything in the appeal will probably just get added to your final points.

(i dont know if what i wrote makes sense to anyone else. ahha oh well makes sense to me ! )

:)

Wait, it's a point system? Are we going back to ucSD again, OMGOSH, ucla is too much

OMG haha NVM dude im still in the ucsd mindset :) just kidding ignore my post :)

aarrhghghh i got into UCLA but cant stop thinking about UCSD :( whats wrong with ME!!! but yeah just ignore the points system thing. lala

but i STILL think that for the appeals process, they dont really care about the out of state thing. whatever you appeal with will just strengthen your application. however, that is, if they dont have a quota for OOS. if they have a quota for OOS students, then i dont know.

yah...u were scaring me with the point system business. it sucks wen ur only 300 pts away, which ur sat score would of made the difference. :/

At least at UCSD, for a difference of 300 pts to be made up by an SAT score, you'd need to score at least 375 pts higher on the SAT, which isn't exactly an easy feat, now something like 10 pts, that would have sucked.

well if i got 100 pts higher, perfect on the writing section, LOL...and 200 pts higher on the reading section, 780..i wouldve been good

Mikemac,

Thanks for the links, they are very useful.

i read somewhere that like 1500 people appealed to ucla and 95 were admitted but i dont know

"So I'd say the odds are about 7%, but may be considerably higher if you were one of the people offered Merced since those people were right on the edge of admission."

Mikemac--
Where did you get this info? I thought Merced offered auto admission to nearly everyone...

tresfleur, mikemac is talking about the new program where you're guaranteed a spot at UCLA only IF you go to Merced for two years first. a number of borderline applicants for UCLA were offered spots in this program instead of admission directly into UCLA.

^ Oh, ok. Thanks for clarifying.

the odds are extremely low (as has been said), but it never hurts to try.

good luck to all of you
