Hi, guys. I've applied to both SDSU and UCSD for the fall term of 2013. Unfortunately, I has denied admission to both universities. I wanna go through the process of appealing to both colleges because I think they've overlooked a few things. I know most of you guys are gonna tell me that they've done their job and they're reviewed every application throughly but I still wanna appeal because I might still have a chance even though it might be nearly impossible to overturn their decision, haha.
So SDSU, I think I have a better chance because I've improved my grades this year from a 3.8 to a 4.1 GPA. They also want a letter pertaining some sort of "circumstance" which I have yet to write about. For UCSD, I know that I would have to speak with an admissions officer first to see if I even have enough standing to write a letter of appeal. Even if I don't, I read that I could still write the letter to the admissions president or that higher-up individual and they would be the ones to evaluate my appeal.
My questions is that for both colleges, what would be my chances? At SDSU, would they take in to consideration the GPA improvement and how big of a factor is that? For UCSD, what would be the best thing to turn in for an appeal? I don't have many significant or compelling arguments I can of at the moment. How often do they overturn admissions and am I missing any appeal requirements? Finally, any good advice for appeals? Thanks :D

Where else did you apply? What about the other schools on your list?

I’m sorry, but if you still need to identify “some sort of ‘circumstance’ [to] write about”–if there’s not a circumstance that screams out to everybody, “Oh, my God, they didn’t know about X”–that’s exactly what I’m going to tell you.

Also, I’m sorry you didn’t get the result you were hoping for.

pinoyboiii452: I live in San Diego and also applied to both schools; accepted. Neither were my first choice, Naval Academy was mine and I was rejected. I called my admissions officer and two other people to try and appeal but it was tough. I think you could do the same and bug the admissions office so much about how great you are (not being cocky or an off putting pain in the ass) and you could get in. I’ll have to turn down SDSU and as I know some friends of mine are as well, the admissions office is probably looking for people who are committed to their school for all the right reasons. Lastly, UCSD is a very hard school to get into, much harder than SDSU even though the admission percentages don’t agree. Best bet is SDSU, but try both!
