I'm going to appeal my financial aid at a certain school. As of now, I have enough legitimate reasons for appealing, BUT in the case that I see nothing is working, would it help if I mention the fact that I recently came in 1st place in my state for a technical-related competition? Or will they not care?

the FA office probably won’t care, as you have already been admitted to the college. Keep your appeal focused on the $$. You can mention other FA awards from other 'Peer" colleges, if they were greater than what you were offered. You can also say mention a FA$$ amount that would be great enough to make you commit to matriculate there.
