Alright I have officially written my appeal...I don't think I should post it up here but I would just like to highlight what I included and ask for tips if anyone has any.

3.78 Comm Major
Finished pre-reqs and some (last one finished by this spring)
Pretttttty good essays
Transfer from JC (junior college)

Highlights:
-Unhappy situation at SFSU causing 3.37 GPA (won't get into details here)
-Junior College Counselor scrwing me over when she advised me to take an 4-unit english course that I later found out was a repetition of a course I took at SFSU (causing me to be 4 units behind so I had to work my a* off.
-Constantly working, sometimes 2 jobs at once, while organizing a 6th grade camp
-Desire to work with UCLA's comm dept due to specifics (their emphasis', professors i'd like to work with, their connections to internships)
-Unfortunate relationship with a CR/NC media course i took at SFSU to the PreReq I am taking for UCLA (apparently UC's see them as the same course so will only accept one...kind of confusing)

veganprincess- I've been advised to do the same as well. I'm still conflicted but at least another fellow Comm. Studies Major is doing it too! Best of luck! :)

Well the classes I took and grades I had received were visible on the applications. BUT the new and compelling information is supposed to include an explanation of "poor grades" (2 b's leading to a 3.37 pff) which could include personal hardships. I also did my research on the comm studies program at UCLA and tried to express WHY I am choosing UCLA over other schools I was accepted to. I'm pretty sure the CR/NC explanation was a big part because UC's see 3 classes as "the same" including intro journalism, intro comms, and intro media. I had taken the media for credit and am NOW taking intro comms (the pre-req). I feel like they may have only decided to look at the class for credit as my pre-req, at which they would not have accepted it because it wasn't a letter grade.

ANYwho...I sent out my appeal letter today and luckily an old English teacher of mine cranked out a letter of rec for me.

WOT: the berkeley "PASS" link that the one guy posted in the rejects thread helped A LOT

Yeah I'm sending mine Monday morning, I'm running down to school and getting my transcript. The pre-req I was taking them that I left out (Poli Sci 1) was short session and I got an A in it, lol. I cranke dout my letter last night, and I like it personally, I'm gonna dig through that guy's link, if i can find it! BEST OF LUCK! Though in truth mine had something to do with info missing, I added why I wanted to go as well. I like it. :)

LATER. No clue, there was a hold up with my app bc one of my bum counselors sent the rec letter to the wrong place. im doubtful he even wrote one honestly, now i understand why he's been avoiding me! i need to 1. confront him and 2. have another professor write one asap but that should be out by lastest next friday is my hope, oy.

I'm not sure how you are framing these things, but if it sounds to much like "it's not my fault" it will not work. Instead it should be how you grew from the experience.

ie.

Reframe: I made a mistake not following up on my counselor's suggestion and as a result ended up four units behind. Since then I have been diligent in taking full responsibility for my studies; being certain that my coursework is what I need, and staying on track to reach my goals.

Reframe: Initially, under the pressure of having to work while attending school, I had not developed sufficient time management skills. Even though I stumbled early on, I have been able to recover. As a result I have learned very valuable time management skills that will aid me in not only in my studies but also in acheiving my future career goals.

Yeah I definitely had framed them differently in the letter:
English thing: I talked about how i quickly met with a counselor to fix the problem and added late into a summer course then prepared myself for 19 units which i then received deans honors for.
