appealing fin. aid.

a few people have mentioned appealing a financial aid decision in other threads. my question is... if we do send a letter appealing it.. will we recieve a reply in time to make a decision on May 1st? and.. does anybody know how often Northwestern reconsiders fin. aid packages?

I would actually like to hear more about this, as well.

If I remember correctly, Northwestern is part of the Consortium on Financing Higher Education. Basically, if your financial aid application is delayed, you get an extension for deciding beyond May 1st, although I'm not sure of the final day you have to reply by.

I tried appealing fin aid at NU. Apparently they dont give out any merit scholarships so whatever you got in aid is basically all you qualified for :/ because of this i might not be going....sad.

Well, Northwestern doesn't give merit scholarships, true. However, if you want to appeal your decision you should have some "new" information that they didn't look over before. This might include a loss of income or something else drastic. If thats not the case, its pretty much fruitless to appeal your decision, unless of course you are trying to bid up.
