My daughter got a decent package but it's going to be tough. If and when prices increase and grants reduce - we're in big trouble.

Is there any chance of getting an increase? How would one go about asking? I don't have any real change in income from what they've seen so I can't appeal on the basis of that...

She fell in love at the open house and we'd love to make this happen for her.

Thanks

In my daughter’s 4 years at RIT, her aid from RIT did not increase. Due to the program she was in, the students were told “do not work” certain years. Since work study was listed as a form of aid for her, I called Financial Aid and told them that the kids were not supposed to work, so that she could not take advantage of the Work Study. The lady said “OK, we will take that off her packet”. However, they would not increase her grants to cover that. It has been my experience that they do not increase aid. But, it never hurts to ask. My son, a HS Jr., is considering RIT and I am VERY concerned about the lack of aid that will be available for him.
Good luck!

What program told her not to work?
Was it hard to find work when she was able to? Is she happy there?

Thanks!

She was in the Physician Assistant program. Their Junior year is very intense, so they don’t want the kids to work. Senior year is their practical experience, so they aren’t even necessarily in Rochester.
She easily found work at a nearby sub shop, and some of her friends worked at area restaurants like Wild Wings. She also worked on campus with the athletic trainers, which she loved.
She was happy there, with her program. she was not very into the campus happenings, but that just wasn’t her scene. She graduated last year and has a very nice job in Virginia. Fortunately for her, she is in a field that I knew she would find a great paying job quite quickly, so she took out more loans than I am letting my D2 take out (she is going for music education).
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have found the Financial Aid office at RIT to be very helpful. Just call or email with any question. Better to ask for clarification in all things in life, eh?
