Appealing financial aid package

If I call up the admissions office or the financial aids office and ask them to match Boston College's package of 40k a year, will they do it? Or is Boston College's rank too low compared to CMU's to be considered it as CMU's "peer"?

Diggz, there is no harm in asking? However, I would be surprised if they considered BC a "comparable" school.

Definitely try. I think they promise to reconsider, but do not promise to match.

I sent the financial aid review form w/ my 41K offer from Case Western Reserve University.. they said it can't harm my financial aid so just try it...

I will probably get my financial aid package today or tomorrow. Will it come with a review form or do I have to personally call? I also saw an online form, but I don't remember the link.

mizera, I got the same offer from Case (when I applied last year) and almost nothing from CMU. I appealed, but they didn't change anything.

To everyone: CMU does not have a lot of money on their hands, so they are not very generous with financial aid unless you're an URM (under-represented minority).

Darn.. I guess I just gotta get more loans..

Ditto on the Case issue. Our son got $20K per year ($80K total) for study at Case/CIM. When we appealed, CMU only offered a small fraction of the Case offer. Sorry to have no optimistic anecdote to offer.

Is Lehigh a comparable school?

Will you just send in the info already instead of asking about comparable schools. It can ONLY help, so just do it.

We don't really respect Case anymore for some reason but my floormates have had a great experience with CMU's financial aid. A lot of them, including one who got 30k in grants, were happy with their aid and got it by appealing/asking and talking with the office.

I didn't get my financial aid package yet so I can't really send anything. They mailed it last Monday and I guess it should be coming soon.
